Blown away but I feel totally at home.
I sure it's got something to do with years of living in Dalston/ Ridley Road, bartering with gran at Blantyre market and growing up on a farm. Its' amazing! I arrived safely after a pretty uneventful journey, except for a bunch of middle aged divorced women on a nip/ tuck break! - still it was a short flight - only 6hrs, and those of you that know, I can sleep through pretty much anything!
Was met by my driver with a sign for Mr Henderson! I know I looked rough but hey! and drove into Delhi totally wide eyed - smiling at the cows... I know we all know they are everywhere but they really are?
I'm staying with Dr Afzal Frieze, an amazing India physcologist - who rents out rooms, and was summonded to her bedside on arrival to be inspected - I think I passed the test "what a pretty girl". After a quick nap I was picked up by Meeras mum - Nina Sood and taken to the nearby Kahn market - my eyes were sparkling... and this is just the start - glitter, colour, noise, people it was amazing - I just can't wait to have a nose around. Then off for a delicious lunch (ideal twiglet status was cast aside!) at the Indian Independent Club with Nina and friends, such a relaxing place after the market - a real oasis of peace and they have free talks/ events - thinking of going to the "current situation in Mexico" to get a different perspective on things!!
Yesterday I braved Delhi on my own, using the scooters (tuk tuk's), I managed to avoid three scams but not sure how many I missed! buy a train ticket to Amritsar and a bottle of diet coke!. The city is like London when the underground is not working - millions of people buzzing about, and it's diwali on Sat, so the streets of filled with candles, sweets, gifts and firecrackers. I"m off now to meet a jeweller friend of Afzal's and then to a wholesale jewellery supplier - my idea of heaven, so will fill you in later.
There is so much to say, constant visitors arriving at the house and lots of chat - its' fantastic and I'm learning so much. I had to pop into a shop for directions yesterday and London Lorna would have said:
" excuse me, please can you show where I am on this map and how I get to here". Indian Lorna said:
" Thank you so much for welcoming me so warmly into your amazing shop, I have not seen a collection of artefacts anywhere else I have been, to rival your collection, it is truley a sight to be seen. May I bother you, if it is convienent, as I know you are full of knowledge and wisdom, to show me on this map where I am..... and more and more..... Thank you so much for your kindness and time you have taken to show me, a visitor to your amazing country my way, I shall now proceed in the direction you have shown me and wish you and your family well. Thank you.... "
Bye for now and love to all

Your arrival
Lorna dear, trust you. No slumming it for Mr Henderson by the sounds of it. No back street grimy hostels for you. I suppose that would be a mistake anyway esp in Inida. OOOH the glitter as you say! Sounds like you are sooooo organised and having a wonderful time. I will def be keeping up with your blog and was sorry to have missed your farewell in London.
