Well we made it to Bangkok o.k. had a great flight with Eva Air, plenty of legroom and nice food.
Arrived at the new airport in Bk "amazing" as you can imagine it would be as its only a week old.
Took the shuttle bus(free) to the transport centre a couple of miles away and caught the 554 local bus US$1 to the old airport Don Muang which is closed as an airport now.
We thought it would be easier to catch the train to Nong Khai from there rather than crowded Bk station and it was, it took an hour to get there and i admit we thought we were lost but we finally arrived and it was a small local train station where we were the only westerners.
Our train was meant to arrive at 9:30pm but turned up at 10:30pm which was ok as we had booked a 1st class sleeper for US$70 so we got a pretty good night sleep although the air con was a bit chilly .
Arrived at Nong Khai at about 1pm (it was due to arrive at 8:30 am but again who cares we are on holiday and we have no deadlines to keep too)
Took my first Tuk tuk ride to the border US$2 and checked out of Thailand, then took the shuttle bus across the Friendship bridge to Laos where we got our visas, they charged Dem US$35 but me only US$30 i think it was cause im such a nice guy she reckons its because im a kiwi.
Took an aircon taxi to Vientiane and booked into Joe Guesthouse (US$13 night) which is quite nice, spotlessly clean and across the road from the Mekong River.
After dropping off our packs we headed across the road to a restaurant and ordered our first beer lao(640 ml 40 pence each) and a lao dinner which was spot on and so cheap.
All in all day 1 of our holiday was a huge success....looking forward to plenty more.

SORRY PICS WILL COME SOON, PROBLEM WITH INTERNET CAFE AND LACK OF CAMERA DRIVER SOFTWARE.....BUGGER
