Our resort is located on the shore of Lower Cullen Lake, and so we spent a good bit of time on the shore and out on the lake. Closest to the resort is a swim beach that is shallow and perfect for the kids. There is also a little stream that ran next to the beach, which leads down to Nisswa Lake. I guess if you take a small enough boat (perhaps a kayak?) you could head out to the other lake. However, the flow of the stream might make it hard to get back! We stuck to Lower Cullen Lake.
The kayaks and paddle boards were free for us to use from the resort, and they also offer a pontoon rental for a fee. My mom wanted to take out the pontoon boat, and so they rented it for all of us to use. My dad, Kevin, and Ben were in charge of piloting the thing (captaining?). We explored Lower Cullen Lake, and we saw many birds as well as the vacation homes along the shore. It's a beautiful place to vacation.
My aunts and cousins loved the stand up paddle board. Even my mom tried it out
a bit! It looked fun, but I decided it wasn't for me. Standing up and trying to balance isn't my thing! We mostly stuck with the kayaks and canoes. Oliver got to try the kayak and loved it! He talked about it nonstop throughout the trip. We let him take Jo around the swimming area in the kayak, too. Since it's shallow, we could follow along to make sure they didn't tip or get stuck. Jo really, really loved the boats and sang "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" the entire time she was on the water.
The kids also enjoyed the little squirt cannons we brought. They chased each other in the swim beach, got each other soaked, and just had a wonderful time.
