What a chilled out weekend!!!!! Other than Friday night and Sat morning which was spent nursing a drunken Marie and in Cape Town Hospital (which was very plush, Marie left feeling fine, nursing only a hefty bill). This is my second trip to a hospital, which I consider quite impressive being here only two weeks, im fortunate neither have been for myself.

Friday night was a party at a club in Green Point, Cape Town for all the volunteers in South Africa...very good fun. Everone has an interesting, funny or sad story to tell from the week.

Saturday was a chill out day on the beach at Clifton Falls Bay...another beautiful spot. Only just made it...our cabbie drove on average 60miles an hour. Sounds fine, but part of it was at barely 10mph when the road was completely clear, then he'd accelerate to goodness knows what mph when obstacles such as red traffic lights, pigeons and people were in view.

Delish African-styley meal at Marcos with an African band in the evening. After my attempt at eating snails in the week, I gave my taste buds a break and passed the sheeps head on without trying it. I had hoped that it might be served in some sort of disguise...wishful thinking. And I'm struggling to eat chicken even more after seeing the boys cut the heads off of live chickens and pluck them just before putting them on their bbq in Kayamandi on my way back from school.

Today a trip to the maket...really not a fan of the whole haggling idea, but im getting there. Everyone has started to head back to their projects for the week. I'm Awaiting 'Denver' (our cabbie who turned out to be El's host father) to come and pick a few of us up and take us back to Kayamandi. It's like living in two different worlds.

These blokes were playing what appeared to be the easiest gambling game in the world, had to guess what lid the marker was under. Once Rem handed over his money, they somehow confused everything, and ripped him off a tenner...buggers

Emma, I wonder if you've had time to sit down and reflect on some of the things you've seen, experienced and encountered over the past few weeks. Probably not. I've just returned from my trip to Shanghai and caught up on your recent diary entries. Thank you for taking the time to do this. Despite eating a variety of dishes in China, I didn't have toilet trouble once. It's really frustrating because I'm sure I'll have some problems this week. I'll let you know through the comment facility on this site as soon as there are any developments. Have you had any trouble out there? Warmest wishes, as always, Shirty.

Package sent Friday 3/10/06
Dear Emma, I'm enjoying very much reading your journals. What an incredible experience you are having, which no doubt will enrich you life. It is good to hear you are safe and being well looked after. I sent a small package for the children (including more of Alex's toy cars), do hope you have received this. My local post office seem to think it would be doubtful. Have a super time with James. Wishing you health and safety. Lots of love from us all. xxx

Teresa you are a wonderful lady
Teresa, thank you so much for the wonderful parcel...and to send it even tho the post office said it was doubtful! Loved my letter too, touching words. Clothes, pants, cars, pens all arrived, it did not look like anything had been touched at all. I have given the cars to my Mama Zoleka's creche where me and James have been helping out with feeding in the mornings where toys are scarce. The pens I have brought into school and am giving them out to the children when they need. The clothes I have not given out yet as thinking where they will go to the best use, will either be to the creche that is only a shack on the other side of Kayamandi or the Trust Centre. I will keep you posted. Lots and lots of love to you. Em xxx
