Edit Blog Post

I've been sitting on the side of the road here, washing down my pork fried rice with a nice chilled orange juice and watching the Thai people marvel at my skill with the chopsticks.

I start looking at the people that walk by and analyzing them and seeing the way they move and the way they look at one another. And I start to think about how absolutely convicted I am in thinking that there are ways we percieve things beyond the realm of our major senses.

We were taught growing up that humans have five senses, and only five. But, we were also taught that there were nine planets, and now we have eight. But, just like taking away Pluto, you can take one of the five away from a person and see them continue to function in most ways. Sometimes their abilities and perception defy rational explanation, considering the facilities they have lost, and we attempt to explain this as a "heightening" of their remaining senses.

But don't we all experience this heightening from time to time? And, don't we all of us everyday sense things about our surroundings and about one another that are not told to us through sight, sound, smell, taste or touch?

One explanation that I can come up with has to do with synergy. When we look at another person and we think about who they must be and what they must be thinking, we use mostly our eyes and ears. Like Sherlock Holmes, we cross-reference what we see and hear with what we have learned and experienced, and we create deductions. Through the marriage of the eyes and the ears and the mind, we have learned more than any one of them alone could tell us, and we learn more than the mere sum of these sensory perceptions. Perhaps at many times, the combination of sensory inputs going through our subconcious mind creates a certain extra-sensory awareness, the synergy of our major senses giving us the effects of an extra sense.

My other explanation has to do with vibrations. Perhaps there are certain kinds of energy emanating from the people and things around us, and perhaps there are parts of our brain that function to sense this energy. Perhaps, like pheromones, this energy carries the signature of our emotions, our desires, and our intentions. So, when we see someone and know to be wary of them without any obvious clues to violence, or when you know inexplicably that that girl or guy has got the hots for you, or when you meet someone for the first time and discuss trivial things but can sense immediately whether or not this is a person you can like and trust: at all these times you are using a sense that has not yet been catalogued along with the others.

Anyway, I haven't done any reading on E.S.P. and I don't reckon I will. I've just been sitting on the side of the road and thinking about it and this is what I thought.

synergy
i like the vibrations you have nic!! always have. and yes, i feel the same way regarding our "sixth" sense. i am in sync with your thoughts of this last blog. i love checking in on your latest entries. continue to be safe. best to you.

energy
There's a lot beyond the 5 senses. Actually, I have what might be called a 6th sense which has opened up the past year- a sort of energetic indicator. There's more to the equation, all to do with universal consciousness, most just can't quite put their finger on it. "Perhaps there are certain kinds of energy emanating from the people and things around us, and perhaps there are parts of our brain that function to sense this energy. " Definitely. Energy fields and what a friends grandfather calls "psychotronic energy" are definitely measurable factors. you're right on target with your thoughts here. "or when you know inexplicably that that girl or guy has got the hots for you" psychotronic energy for sure. Well, I can certainly tell you that I'm doing the reading in your stead.
