Introduction

I thought I would introduce myself and this blog. I tend to be a person who collects experiences and not things. I think my son-in-law expressed it best when he told me - Some people think those who have the most toys win in life, he feels that those who use their toys the most wins.

In writing the blog it is nice to have the pictures and memories, but the primary reason I write the blog is that it forces me to be a more acute viewer. When I am going to write about something, I generally pay attention.

This trip started on January 13th when I flew to Cancun. I met up with Alfonso, my old college roommate from Monterrey, MX. He showed up with a woman he met on the plane. It is good to see that not much has changed since September 1962. I guess we think old friends don't change, only ourselves. The fact of the matter is that the only thing that changed is our ability to fool ourselves into thinking we have changed.

The three of us took a cab to Puerto Morales to visit my friends Lois & Mryna. At first I was worried - was this woman, Lisa, expecting to stay overnight. After a bit it occurred to me, this is not my problem. After getting to Lois’ house, Lois had the same thought so I told her it was not her problem. After about 20 minutes, Lisa said she was catching the bus to Playa de Carman, could someone give her a ride to the bus stop. I could feel the relief in myself and see it in Lois. We stayed for three days and then took the bus from Puerto Morales to the Cancun bus station and then to Merida. It is about 380 K from Cancun to Merida.

Try not to get too bored with the blog and I will try to minimize the BS.

I would also like to thank Cathy Olson for cleaning and editing the blog. My computer went down in Merida so I typed most of the blog on a Mexican keyboard with Mexican Microsoft Office. The Mexican version of office is very different than the American version. In addition keyboard is different in Spanish.
