Pablo EscobarPablo EscobarPablo Escobar

his death depicted in a famous Botero painting
Pablo Escobar...the all-times drug lord...the big time mobster .... the coke king having his very own kingdom- Medellin Cartel, Colombia.

I donºt know to how many people this name rings a bell, but for sure that if you heard it mentioned only once, you canºt easily forget it. You associate Pablo Escobarºs name with crime, violence, terror, bombs, killing, more killing and the list is endless. Strangely enough, some loved him. Plenty hated his guts. Poor people of Medellin and Envigado adored him. He was the one giving them jobs , money, even houses. The man gave them what the state never could. For free. Can you blame them for sticking up for him?? He was a traffic dealer, the biggest of all times, but he was a sort of Robin Hood of modern times. Even run for Congress...lol... Born wretchedly poor, he made it big! He was one of a kind. Unique in his evil way, with his famous phobia for dirty toilets for which it is said that he had a personal janitor cleaning and scrubbing it 3 times a day! Hilarious, but nevertheless true. A big time mobster with a toilet phobia, makes you laugh, doesnºt

it?When he shot his enemies and many times this happened in the comfort of his own home, he would carefully have plastic bags cover the carpets and sofas, so he wouldnºt stain his precious furniture. Clever and ingenious guy, wasnºt he? 😊

Some facts that maybe would draw your attention...let me remember...my friend Paola and I spent about 3 hours talking about him and still I donºt know as much as I would like to, so I googled up his name and read some more factual stories I wanna share with you, guys.

Well....he made number 7 on the riches people worldwide list in the 90's,that must mean something, his large estate was built illegally, but the dirty money smartly lost their track on the way to more legit business. After the cocaine boost in the States in the 70's Pablo realized he could make a fortune by selling what Colombian farmers grew, without even knowing they were literally sitting on a gold mine. He had the brains to put it into practice. It didn't take him much to realize it will be an overnight success and he would become an overnight millionaire. Escobar started not only to plant, to grow, but to produce the final product and so...only in a few years he was filthy rich.

The most violent drug-dealer ever, killing mercilessly whomever would stay in his way and in the way of his devious plans, Pablo was adored in Colombia. Not by everybody, obviously, but surely by his people how would put their lives on the line for him. And they did. Many of them. Escobar would go to public markets and to parks and hand out 100 dollars bills to the people there. He would also kill his own men caught using cocaine , without giving it a second thought. He made it clear, the coke was for the gringos, was the merchandise, but he would not allow his men to use it, it was forbidden. He got himself into politics but soon his real vocation came up to the surface and he had FBI, CIA , the Secret Services and Colombian police on this tail , trying to track him down and finish with him once and for all.Pretty sad.

He 'volunteered' to do time in his own prison- in the sense that the prison was built by his men exactly as he wanted it 😊), with all the comfort money could buy 😊))...and he turned himself in, carrying on with all his illegal stuff and actually in this way controlling his business without being at risk . Soon after that, he got sick and tired of being imprisoned if we can call this imprisonment and he got out. He managed to elude all Secret Services trying to catch until one day when a phone call he made was traced to an apartment where he was hiding.

This was happening in 1992, he was killed and his entire empire collapsed. Some people say justice was done, some still mourn him. The cocaine era was anyway almost over, as better drugs were entering the market. Pablo Escobar was a controversial personality, feared and loved by many.
