The Japan Rail Pass
these things were worth their weight in gold, a must for getting around Japan Hello !!!! whilst we are still in blogging mode thought i would stick an entry about our journey from Tokyo to Kyoto on the bullet train as Carla going to do the next entry about our time in Kyoto so watch this space.
I wrote the below whilst on the train, so its a bit poetic !!! apologies but i promise loads of crude jokes about lady boys when i blog Bangkok!
The Shinkazen (Bullet) trains' have a simple excitement about them. Waiting on the platform we watch them glide in with their Concorde-like noses and pristene white carriages. But like most of Japan the ultra modern never forgets the tradition and history of this ancient country. Firstly an army of pink tracksuited cleaners pile on to turn the seats around and use their primative brushes and cloths to make all gleam again, and as you speed through the countryside at god knows how many miles an hour you are humbled by the soft words and bows of the staff as they leave and enter the air conditioned carriages.
The journey itself seems to take only half the advertised three hours and is spoilt only by the mucky weather
The Shinkanzen (bullet train)
not the easiest object to photograph in Japan blocking our view of Mt Fuji behind low cloud and grey mist. At one of our only few stops a bigger, bluer version of our train shoots past so fast that I physically feel my whole body lift and shake with the force of the passing bullet.
We arrive as promied at exactly 2.32pm at the ultra modern Kyoto station and disembark for stage 2 of our Japanese adventure in it's ancient and cultural capital.
