Poor Will didn't feel so well this morning, so we abandoned the mountain hike idea for a quicker walk along the beach. First, a trip to the local market to buy some much needed supplies like paper towels and chorizo, a swing by the pharmacy for some cold/flu medicine, and a quick cup of coffee at the little cafe down the street. We walked down to the port and climbed on the rocks for a better view of the ocean. It really is so pretty here, even though the weather is cloudy and windy. We wandered around the town for a bit, althgouh most places were closed for siesta. Siesta is a real time here in Spain - everything does close down for about 2 hours every day. We joined Will's roomate, Cecelia, for a sunset walk and a drink at the local Celtic bar. Galicia has been inhabited since the time of the Celts and the Celtic influence is everywhere - in the ruins by the sea, bars, and even the local men playing bagpipes. We heard them twice! Also quite prevalent are little stuffed Santas hanging from many windows and balconies. We decided they looked like they were breaking
and entering - or perhaps there are no chimneys for Santa to slide down, so this must be showing the way. We also saw a few of Will's students and they shout out "hola Will" like he is a local celebrity. The local celebrity and I found there were no restaurants open on Christmas eve, so we returned home and he made us some pasta (his with an egg - of course). Happy Christmas to everyone - a bus to Vigo and plane to Madrid will make up our day. Maybe we'll see Papa Noel!
