19th May-So today I had my final breakfast with the group 😞 It says in our trip documents that you should tip your guide an average of $20 per week but to be honest he wasn't that great. His heart just didn't seem to be in it and he wasn't as informative as he could've been. To top it off he didn't even say goodbye to us so now I don't feel guilty....plus I'm on a budget man! I got my toes done with shellac in Chiang Mai and I picked like a redy sort of colour but it came out kind of pink looking....and as I'm not a huge fan of pink I have to keep telling myself that they're coral lol! They're still nice and shiny though 😊 The Icelandic girls got matching tattoos whilst we were in the sky bar last night....see what happens when left to their own devices!
I was going to check out the Grand Palace this afternoon with one of the guys from my group who is also joining my new tour but ended up bumping into some people from my new tour which was good 😊 We all decided to jump in a tuk tuk and go together. The driver told us we had to go by boat due to the protests on the roads but the lady wanted like 300 baht each and we were like no way! So we ended up getting in another one and it took us by road....such con artists! When we finally got there it was like 500 baht to get in so we just settled for a look around the outside...I tried to be cultural guys!
We met all our other group members this evening and went for some street food and then onto Kohsan Road for some drinkies. I was knackered but wanted to see my friends from the last group as they were staying in a hostel there. I'm gonna miss those girls! 😞
20th May-Today was just a chill out day on the iPad in the lobby before we hit the overnight train...I'm well used to these now! I downloaded some books and a film onto my iPad which is exciting....so different to a book hehe! I watched the film on the train and it had Lindsay Lohan in it....biggest piece of shit I've watched in a while....such an odd film! Glad I only rented it. But I've got some good books to be getting on with 😊
21st May-Happy Birthday to my cousin Lydia. So we got to our first Thai Island today....Koh Pha ngan at around 9am after a little ferry trip where a couple of us couldn't find seats so we climbed into the kids soft play area and fell asleep....complete shocker that I was one of them! The island is beautiful.....it really is like being in paradise. I've had a strange feeling for most of this trip and I wasn't quite sure what it was...but I think it's freedom. Bit soppy I know! My Dad told me on Skype that it looks like all the stress has left my face bless him!
We just did some sunbathing and swimming in the clear warm sea before doing a hike up the mountain to this cliff which had an amazing viewpoint. I thought I was gonna die it was such hard work....but I got to use my walking shoes for the first time so was pleased about that lol! I didn't go all the way to the edge of the cliff as there were big drops off either side. We went with our new guide Monique who is lovely and so helpful....I may have to tip this one haha! Tonight we had the half moon party in the jungle 😊 it's basically a rave and you wear flowery headbands and get painted with glow paint like a bunch of hippies....good fun! I tried a mushroom shake but it didn't do anything....was like 500 baht too! Our pick up truck was due to come and get us at 2am so at about 1 I found a hammock and naturally fell asleep 😊 Good night though, plus I got to see my friends from the last group again.
22nd-It's the election today! Labour! Labour! Thanks Kaz for putting my vote in 😊 Breakfast isn't included here so I figured I'd roll out of bed just after 12 and hit the beach. It was all good until it got really windy and it was like a bloody sandstorm! So I retreated to my room for a nap. We only have a fan above the bed here and no air con 😞 The electricity goes off between 4 and 6pm so they can give their generator a rest but today we were lucky and it didn't so I got to have a nap in the wind yay! The Americans from a different group got upgraded to air con and beach view rooms as they complained....typical! We had a BBQ on the beach tonight where I had king prawns with salad and jacket potato and banana pancake for dessert mm mm mmm! Best pancake I've had yet...I'm sure the USA will trump it! We had a bonfire on the beach and set off lanterns and then I chilled in a hammock with my iBook and caught up with my blog writing. The military have taken over in Bangkok now so there's a 10pm until 5am curfew....but we're on the Islands is it's more relaxed xx
