God Bless American Muscle Cars
It is always nice to find a little piece of home on your travels. August 25th
Got up this morning and took a cab to my second interview. Arrived 45 minutes early and slipped into a tea shop to pass the time. The shop had perhaps 150 to 200 large square tin tea bins up on the wall, all holding a different flavor tea. I had an excellent citrus/berry tea that was strained through an assortment of nuts.
The second interview was more like a proper interview. They were prepared and obviously still excited about me. I spent an hour answering and asking questions. I was then given a tour through the office ( the office fills a full five story commercial building). Next I was handed over to a team member who I will be working with, named Martin. Martin just arrived in NZ from the UK 6 or 8 months ago. He and his wife wanted to get away from the rat race of the UK (not even London). We discussed his projects (four are in the works right now). I really impressed him when I guessed what tunneling method they would be proposing for an Auckland equivalent to the Big Did in Boston. After briefly review a few drawings and

His jaw dropped open, he said that before this project he’d not even heard of “cut and cover” and it is a method not used in NZ before, so they are bring in experts to advise on the project. Martin and I had tea in the break room and casually discussed the office environment, all sounds good!!! I ended up spending nearly 45 minutes with Martin. In all I was at the office for nearly 2 full hours.
At the end of all this I was told that once the HR person gets back in the office on Monday they will submit a formal offer to my recruiter!!!!! All in all things are looking very good for me right now. It took me 4 weeks to find work in London, but only two weeks to find it in NZ. I almost died today when I learned that as a permant employee I am guaranteed 4 weeks of vacation to start with, this is above and beyond the 5 sick days allowed. What are all these labor unions in NZ protesting about?
Nearly everyone that I have meet at IEP has moved on in the country. Only a few of that weeks new members are left in the area. The two girls from the States, the German, and an Englishman (whom I’ve not yet met but I guess he’s around and not have much luck locating work or making a decision to move on).
The German guy is going back to the farm within the next few days, this time he wants a car, which will give him freedom from the captivity of farm life. We went walking in the direction that someone had told us we would find a backpackers cheap used car lot (under $1000 i.e. in American standards a POS. We never did find the lot and ended up walking 2 hours round trip. I did see a fine piece of American craftsmanship parked on the street. A red Dodge Charge muscle car, pretty cherry too!!! Take a look at the steering wheel location, this baby was brought over by ship, someone has some fine taste.
That reminds me. John how did the Honda test drive go? Did the make a sale?
Tomorrow I will be attending 6 hours of free lectures at Auckland University. The program is designed to attract freshman students for spring quarter. I also will begin the roommate search here in earnest.
Well wishes to all.

PS:
Could someone print all of these journals out for me and file them away? I don’t have the ability to do so and am worried that at some point in time the blog may be lost to eternity. There’s no option to save these documents to Word format or similar. Thx
