After all the hard work, the long hours of preparation and the ever-faithful list of things to get ready to be shipped over to Tanzania, it's finally done. The Semi-truck pulled out this last Saturday afternoon with all of our books, supplies, and household goods to make the long journey to Africa! So here we are, relieved and tired, with a great ~Sigh~ time to catch our breath and begin to focus on the 4 weeks left here in Alabama. Preparing for the coming months and adventures in moving and acclimating to a new culture and society that's ahead of us. Time to really hit the books on our Swahili again!
I really can't believe that its just 4 weeks away now. It dawned on me a few days ago as I was walking through Wal-mart getting those last few items to send, that "we're moving back to Africa in less than a month!" I know that sounds strange to say, but in all honesty the excitement this time is even greater than it was the first time. I guess it's because having been there and knowing just how much I love it, eases the concerns and thoughts
of the unknown. We are all very excited and ready to go! For as many times as people say, "Aw I can't believe you are moving to Africa...." We feel just the opposite, of, " I can't believe that we get to go work in Africa once again!" To tell you the truth, I have never known anyone who has made the trip who hasn't loved every minute of it! (even with the long 22 hours in flight)
Brent has been amazing at making it all work out, getting everything to fit just perfectly, you should have seen the floor to ceiling wall of boxes perfectly fit into the walls of the 40 ft. container. He has been truly wonderful at keeping my thoughts focused on what's at hand, and accomplishing what needed to be done. His logo for us all has been, "One step at a time and God will handle the rest." We have had so many helpers along the way as well. Ladies who would come up and remind me not to forget this thing or that, the little things that might have slipped my mind in all the commotion and of course the organized
friends who kept marking things off the list for us while we were busy with something else. Thank you to everyone who played a part in the loading and the filling of the container along with us. We could never list everyone without accidentally leaving some off, because every time I turned around there was something done by someone without my having known about it.
The Container should be on the water about 35 days and then arrive in Kenya for clearing, Taxing and the bartering for the tax price to come down over time. They are estimating about 3 months from here to there.. and telling me to be expecting to have our things there around mid December time frame. So it should make for a wonderful Christmas.
Some of you may not realize yet that the seasons in Tanzania are different from ours here in the states. December will be in the middle of their hot season... 80-100 degree days. So we may go take our Christmas card picture on the coast of Dar es Salam in our Santa hats with the blistering sun, sandy beach and crystal clear blue waters behind us for a good
laugh. We'll see. And while we are there remember the time difference. Tanzania is 8 hours ahead of us in Central time zone USA. I have put a time and temperature gauge on our website Home page so that you can keep that in mind. www.TanzaniaMissionReport.com
Well We should have a relatively easy few weeks ahead of us now. But please continue to keep us and the other missionaries there and those who are also making preparations to join us in the future all in your daily prayers!
Love, Julie
