The Requisite Group Shot at the Welcome Dinner And we're off!
Twenty-five anxious and excited host families met at the airport in eager anticipation of our guests arrival, welcome signs in hand and smiling wide. Our friends from Haigerloch, Germany have arrived in Washington for their two week visit! All of the preparation and planning is complete thanks to the leadership of our own Heidi Herder and we are ready to rock!
After the blue clad Haigerloch crew had collected their baggage, we were off in separate directions (mostly north of course). Some took the opportunity to explore Seattle on this beautiful and mostly sunny day, a truly rare occasion here lately. The obvious first stop of Dicks Burgers was a popular one for many in order to partake in some uniquely Seattle artery clogging goodness! Pike Place Market, the Seattle Underground Tour, the Great Wheel, shopping, and the waterfront were of course on the docket as well. Others high tailed it home to the Skagit Valley for activities in that region. Our German guests, most having been up and traveling since 1am Bow time, were positive and enthusiastic the whole way. They are troopers indeed!
Saturday was a rainy Pacific Northwest day spent with their
Welcome Party
Eagerly Awaiting Our Friends Arrival host families. Some went skating, hiking near Deception Pass, or just hung out and relaxed. We met at Edison for the requisite Welcome Dinner celebration in the evening. The kids owned the gym with basketball, football, soccer and general rambunctiousness. The adults conversed and finalized plans nearby as the schedule laid out by our fearless leader is an ambitious one! It's going to be a wild, fun and rewarding ride, so hold on tight!
Dinner was great! Thank to Heidi, Jill and Anna for making all that spaghetti!
Tomorrow we are off to Friday Harbor on the ferry and then out to Lime Kiln park to hopefully see some whales and tour the light house. Look for an update soon!
Onward we march as the first ever Edison- Haigerloch exchange is in full swing!
