Left Perth for Mandurah via scenic beach route. Lots of new development. Had enough of the coast for a while so headed inland to a beautiful little town called Harvey, this is the home town of May Gibbs of Cuddlepot fame. First there was a beautiful stone memorial to the Italian prisoners of war. Then, the info centre and May Gibbs memorial. What a beautiful place, the gardens were like English gardens, roses, trees, dahlias, footpaths, stream, fruit grove and vegetable gardens, with seating, fountains and scenic views aplenty. Absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately, we had to move on, so up into the Darling Escarpment (no mountains over here) to Collie, the coal mining centre, then southwest to Mumballup for the night. Showers all night. It has been beautiful driving through dairy country, Jarrah and Tuart Forrest's and apple, pear and plum orchards and wineries.next day we called into Gnomesville at Wellington Mills, OMG, what a sight. People have added gnome after gnome after gnome. Wished we had one to add. Then we drove up into the hills to find the King Jarrah. Got onto another dirt road and thought we might be lost but all of a sudden there it was. Kept going on dirt and came across the Wellington dam, very impressive. Found a lot of young blue wrens there, only had their blue tails, hope to find some mature ones somewhere. We made our way west to Bunbury for the night. Did a bit of sightseeing around town and down to Capel. Pulled into Peppermint Grove Beach, not much there except a cranky blue tongued shingle back lizard. A large sign into the beach announced the mosquito danger rating ( like our fire rating ).
