First glimpse
Victoria Falls Zambia

Livingstone, my last stop in beautiful Zambia and the end of my 5 week overland camping trip, the home of Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, has the buzz and energy of border towns everywhere. (One side of the falls is in Zambia the other in Zimbabwe)

Hawkers and hustlers on bicycles ply their wares on both sides of the border, cooking oil from Zimbabwe in big yellow jugs, art, trinkets and fabric from Zambia crisscross the border all day long.

Entrepreneurs on both sides rent rain ponchos and plastic slippers (50 Kwacha or $1 each) to visitors to the falls...wisely I took this option as without rain gear the spray from the falls soon drenches one to the skin! It's like a tropical downpour! Who knew?

The falls are magnificent! Higher and larger than I ever imagined, the roar and thunder of the water incessant and the huge bright rainbow in the sunny spray ever present.

There and then I vowed to try my best to visit all the natural wonders of the world...they take the breath away!

Along roadside into Livingston
our faces up into the spray.

(Very few photos, cameras instantly soaked!)

This is a fitting end to what has been a fascinating and often difficult trip. Drenched in the flying spray of Victoria Falls, washed clean finally of all the dust and difficulty of the truck we turn towards our little hotel. Tomorrow we part ways, she to Zimbabwe to work in a rescue shelter for large wild cats (mostly cheetah).

'Walk good' my new friend that serendipity introduced.

I, to CapeTown South Africa for 3 weeks....why not? I'm close by and was here within the first year of Mandela's rule, so now have come full circle and be here within the first year of his death...

Tomorrow the journey continues.
