Our usual winter!! Left home in October, spent 2 weeks in Mazatlan this year. It is much cooler, less humidity and we could run our air. Huge Bonus!! Flew home for 2 weeks at Christmas. Enjoyed every minute!!

A new adventure for us. We had plans to join our friends, Jim and Deb from Kelowna for a week vacation in Jose del Cabo. We had our plans and the night before they were to fly out Deb phoned in tears to say that Jim had to have some heart procedure and could not go on vacation. Poor Deb!! She was in tears. Jim was sick or they were missing their holiday?? Whatever it was a shock for them.

We had plans to bus to Guadalajara from LaPenita, spend the night and then proceed to San Jose del Cabo to meet up with Jim and Deb. Things change!! but there is always a silver lining.

Unbeknownst to me, my cousin Gerry Mitchell has a house in LaPaz, Baja about 3 hours from San Jose del Cabo. His brother Ken and his wife, Pat from Williams Lake were going to be there as well. I had thought we might spend a day with them but as fate would have it, we changed our plans.

We left LaPenita by the usual wonderful Mexico bus ride to Guadalajara. First class bus. Very comfrotable. Spent the night in a hotel and the next day flew off to San Jose Del Cabo. There we rented a car. What an experience!! We had booked a car online for $104 for the week!! Yeah, yeah too good to be true. We got to the rental place and that $104 was $436. I had researched insurance to the ninth degree. I knew we had to buy Third party liability but we would be covered by Visa for Colllision. $37 per day for insurance. Larry haggled around (I have to stay outside, it just drives me crazy). Finally he and the rental came out and we jumped in the shuttle bus, back to the airport to take the Shuttle to LaPaz. Rental man said there was no shuttle but I knew for a fact there was so . . . one more strike against him.

When we leaped out of the van, we had about 4 different rental people run up to us offering deals. Finally went with Hertz for $119 all in for the week. All insurance, no messing around with Visa or anything. It ended up being $165, I guess tax. It was a mid-size car so no jelly bean either. What a deal. We might need to try that card again. Push comes to shove!!

Jumped in the car, thinking we would drive either LaPaz, 3 hours away, and it was 5PM or maybe just to Todo Santos. the roads were amazing!! 4 lanes, nice big shoulders, good line markers, and blinkers. We did see a deer standing on the road which un nerved us a bit but carried.

Arrived in Lapaz at Gerry and Gabriella's house in time for a great Mexican dinner. They have a lovely house just 2 blocks up from the Malecon. We ended up staying 5 nights with Ken and Pat. Gerry and Gab left the next day for home.

Lapaz had not been on my bucket list but it was spectacular. Very little humidity, nice warm temp and cool at night.

Home now in LaPenita and glad to be here for a while. Mike and Marg arrive on Feb 13th, Ross on Feb 14th, neighbours here right now. Lots of fun.

We also had Barry and Jan from Edmonton here for 2 weeks. They rented a trailer in the park so we beached, ate together. All the stuff we like to do.

Hard to believe only 6 weeks until we think about the ride home.

Looks great!
Well you guys have done it again. When something turns turtle, you always seem to have that happy knack of coming out on top. A holiday in a beautiful Mexican mansion! Who could ask for more? Of course, we do realize perception is not always reality and that, being the experienced travelers that you are, you do spend a lot of time (and smarts) on doing your homework and getting things right and that also helps. Enjoy the remainder of your holiday. xxx
