After a great time in Calgary (minus the watersliding accident that left me with a fat lip), we managed to make it here in one piece. We spent the first day exploring Little India, where we are staying (in the In Crowd Hostel). THe hostel arranged a group of people to go to a fancy bar on the 72nd floor of a hotel. Drinks were $S18 (around $15 canadian), but it was happy hour so we got them half price. Thats still a little rich for us so we just had one and drank it very slowly.

Yesterday we spent the day at the zoo and night safari. If you come to Singapore this needs to be first on your list. The animals aren't in cages, they are outside, separted from us by hidden moats. There are free ranging orangutans in the trees (one was a six month old baby!), and places where you can walk around with the animals close enough to touch (but you're not supposed to). I took almost two rolls of film. I often feel bad for animals in zoos, but these ones had it made. If I were an animal, thats where I would like to live. The night safari was the same kind of thing, but at night so we could see nocturnal animals in action.

Today a guy who works at the hostel took us (me, Michelle, and six others) on a 15 km hike. We started in a rain forest including a canopy walk, then hiked through a golf course where we fed turtles in the lake, and then around the entire lake. We saw wild monkeys (macaques), a lizard, and a snake. It was amazing, but very hot and sweaty work. The hostel guy then brought us out to his favorite Indian restaurant where we ate with our hands on a banana leaf. Now its raining though, and we'll probably just relax at the hostel tonight. Between today and yesterday we've walked for 18 hours probably, so I think we deserve a break!

After seeing what hiking in the rainforest in such heat and humidity does to a person, we're going to skip out on Taman Negara and go straight to the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia instead. We're going to try to catch a bus there tomorrow. Not sure about internet access there, so I'll write again when I can.
