"On Aug 4th, we flew to Luang Prabang, Laos. In the hotel, we did not stay too long because we went to two temples. One of them had a museum where the king and queen sit down, sleep, meeting rooms, and all that kind of stuff. In that temple it also had a room with very old cars. The next temple had this really cool room with a Buddha and a statue of an old monk. Finally we went back to the hotel and took a shower. After that we went to the night market and of course it was at night, duh. At the night market, my dad bought me a bracelet and a shake that had dragon fruit in it. It was good. Then I started to get hungry. My dad and I already knew where we were going to eat. It was cool because we had to take a boat across the river. It was really peaceful. At the restaurant my dad ordered a barbeque to cook meat. Around it was a soup. It was delicious. We also got rice but how we have to do it is you have to get the rice and roll it into
a ball and dip it in a sauce if you want to. After dinner, we had a nutella crepe for desert. It was very good. Finally we went back to the hotel and sleep.

On Aug 5th, we went to Elephant Village with these England girls, but one of them was from Holland. Anyway, we first learned how to get on and off an elephant. I was first because I wanted to go on first. Then we went on a ride on the elephant. The elephant got us wet. My dad thought it was sneezing. Finally we had lunch. My dad and I talked to the girls and one of them gave me a good luck bracelet. After lunch we washed an elephant. It was funny when the elephant was in the water and splashed me with water from its trunk. Then I said goodbye to the elephant. Finally, we went on a boat to swim in a waterfall. There was a current and it was really cold. Then we went back to the hotel" -

Dad's Comments and
What an experience!
Standing on Lady Gold in the Nam Khan river in Laos Details:
A very short 50 minute flight on Lao Airlines and we arrived in Luang Prabang. We were met by a driver who took us to our hotel,
Ban Lao Hotel . It was a very nice hotel, much better than our hotel in Vientiane and at $45 a night with free airport pick up, breakfast and Wifi, a great deal. We did not spend much time in hotel before grabbing a tuk tuk (Sofia absolutely loves driving in Tuk Tuks) and headed for the Royal Palace. It was very beautiful and Sofia had fun practicing her Karate Kata in the palace. We then took another Tuk Tuk to Wat Xieng Thong, a very cool Buddhist Monastery. Sofia especially liked one of the temples that had pics of a famous monks. She saw a lots of monks and was fascinated by them. That night we took a boat (dug out long canoe) across the Nam Khan river and a short walk to reach Dyen Sabai. We had a lot of fun eating sticky rice and doing the BBQ at our table. Eating the rice was fun....and Sofia loved how she could use her hands to roll the rice in a ball
and then dip in sauces. This was not Sofia's idea, but actually how it is supposed to be done. The BBQ involved cooking meat over hot coals surrounded by a mote filled with coconut water, eggs, veggies and other stuff. We sat on cushions on the floor and Sofia had fun cracking an egg open with chopsticks as our waiter had. Delicious and fun. The boat back at night was very peaceful and we both enjoyed it.

Our second day in Luang Prabang was on of the highlights of our trip. We did a day tour through
Elephant Village . We shared the tour with 3 woman from England and 1 from Holland. Sofia quickly became their friend. We first were introduced to our elephants and trainer. Our elephants name translated into Lady Gold. We learned a few commands and how to ride bare back. Then we took off on an hour stroll through the beautiful area. After a delicious lunch at Elephant Village, the best part of the day occurred. We rode Lady Gold into the river and Sofia started washing her with a brush. Then the elephant started spraying us. Not sure
She made awesome smoothies
I especially liked the oreo with banana smoothie who was bathing who. Sofia would lean forward so she could get sprayed with the most water possible. We BOTH had so much fun. Sofia had a hard time saying goodbye to Lady Gold. The day ended with a 45 minute long wooden boat ride to the Tad Sae waterfall. It was very beautiful and we took a good swim. It was cold, but very refreshing. A boat ride back, donating our dirty clothes/bathing suits, and we headed back to our hotel. What a day! We capped it off with dinner at
Tamarind where we shared some dishes. It was delicious. We were both tired and after we picked up some gifts at the night market, we both hit the sack. We both loved Luang Prabang, but it was time to go to Thailand.....
