Finally, I get to see what all the hype is about, because everyone is always raving about California.
Well those people are pretty much right - the weather is great, the people are nice, and the scenery is beautiful.
Our first stop was Los Angeles. We stayed with my uncle Sonny, an avid chef who pulled out all the stops in cooking for us. I haven’t seen him since I was very young, so it was great spending time together.
We then headed north towards San Francisco on the famous Highway 101. We raced up the coast chasing the setting sun, taking in gorgeous views of cliffs and water. The winding, precipitous path was quite intense especially after dark, and I put our little turbo into manual and pushed it to the max! It was a total blast, except Allie for some reason did not seem to enjoy the "pushing it to the max" part...
In San Francisco, we toured Stanford, Berkeley, Napa Valley, and the California Academy of Sciences which had a sort of adults-only night featuring discounted museum admission, drinks, and club music. I kept thinking that if I were a young, single lady,

At the Griffith Observatory I would have loved to meet a guy there – is that weird?
The final destination of our journey was Yosemite National Park. Though I had promised Allie we’d just car camp, we ended up backpacking a fourteen mile round trip climb to one of the highest points in the park. Allie, being full of grace and patience, was ok with this - thanks, babe.
