Guten tag!

"Luzern is Switzerland, The City, The Lake, The Mountains." It is said that "whatever you expect from a unique city, Luzern offers more than you ever expected." So true!! It is magnificent!

We cruised the lake on an evening tour, taking in the breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains and the many villages dotted along the lake-side. It seemed endless as we lazed our way around the enormous expanse of water, the fourth largest in Switzerland.

Our adventure up to Mount Pilatus was equally awesome. This magnificent mountain sits 2132 metres above sea level. The world's steepest cogwheel railway, engineered by Eduard Locher, and built in 1888, is currently proudly celebrating its 125th anniversary. The journey was a magnificent treat and the views at the top could not be described adequately. The Hotel Bellevue sits at the very top in the side of this mountain offering typical Swiss fare, where we enjoyed apple strudel and coffee whilst taking in the magnificent panorama. We were very lucky to experience these views as the mountain is often shrouded in cloud and mist. An evening storm on this very day, as predicted, cleared the sky for another beautiful day following also. A return journey via the cable car is available, but we chose to return on the train. It amazed us to see so many cattle and cows grazing happily on these steep slopes, all wearing the traditional German cow-bells around their necks. To our surprise, there were many enthusiastic, energetic hikers along the way making good use of the trails.

Today we had a leisurely day walking through some of the city and taking a local street train trip for an extensive tour of the Old City. The museums, theatres and festivals make Luzern a city of culture amongst traditions and trends.
