Hi All

What a lovely place to stay for a day or two. A really relaxed feel to this town with quiet traffic, a first in our experience for a Chinese city, and pretty floral arrangements on the street corners.

We stayed here a couple of nights just to break up the long journey to Xining. We visited the mosque, where were asked to sit in the shade and talk to the old men. We got as far as we could with our Chinese then a young man came and asked us the same questions again but in English. The mosque was very different to the ones we'd seen in Xinjiang. Gone is the heavy middle eastern feel, although there is a lot of arabic script on the walls, the old men asked if we could speak Arabic so I assume they must learn it, and it's replaced with a Chinese feel.

We had some delicious ganban mian noodles for lunch and then wondered around the market. Golmud is at 2800 metres above sea-level and we have found that if we walk too quickly that we do get out of breath. Golmud is also a stop on the Xining-Lhasa railway and we have seen a few Tibetan people wandering around close to the station.

So tomorrow we take that railway, not to Tibet though, to Xining where we hope to find out information on travelling through the Tibetan areas of western Sichuan.

Enjoy the photos

Jah Bless

Peace and Quiet
Can you imagine me in the thin air' I would have to sit down every minute. Very hot here in England (30) and I stay indoors most of the time.
