It is with a very heavy heart that i am writing this Blog.

Avril aka Skim lost her four and a half year battle with cancer, On the 28th of june 2013 at St Michaels Hospice Hereford. I lost my soul mate, lover, wife, travelling buddy and most of all my best friend.

So this is not only letting the travelblog community know what has happened but also a tribute to Skim.

I would like to share with you Avril's letter she left for family and freinds this was read out at her funeral.

Kick in the tail

Friends always know when you're feeling down.

They know when you need them to come around -

They're always there at the end of the phone.

They listen; they're everything; a special day of sunshine,

Or a sunflower that's grown, head high

above the weeds of sadness and of pain.

It's friends that get you by,

Friends that hug you when you cry,

And that make you smile again.

So - thank you all, my friends.

And to Tracey, loved by me and everyone:

Remember our girly chats, and all the fun;

Talk to me, still; in a whisper, or out loud.

I'll be watching over you,

And i'll be proud.

And my Ronnie. A lifetime could not be long

enough for us to be singing the same song,

Our thoughts in tune. Be strong

for Tracey - remember you said "defo!" that you would;

And that i love you more than i ever thought i could.

And everyone - smile if you think of me,

For i have been ecstatic in your company,

and my life has been fantastic.

I have followed the sun, and done so much,

And it's up to you to go and find your magic,

Be everything you ever want to be;

Make the most of every minute, whatever comes to pass,

Because you don't know when some bastard will be there to

kick your arse,

And - you never know - it might very well be me.

Dear Ron,
I'm so sad to hear of Avril's passing. I remember reading your blogs as you crossed the western US...I live in Colorado...and then your announcement of the cancer which would take her life. I didn't know what to say then, but your poem says it best "They know when you need them to come around." I'm sorry I didn't come around sooner. Thank you for sharing all your travels, and then your most personal grief. Avril must have been quite a fighter...and she had the right attitude. I pray that you and your family and friends will find peace.

Time passes too quickly
We have great sadness for your loss. What an amazing tribute. Thank you for posting her poem... how lovely. When the time is right we hope you will continue traveling, writing and living life as she would have wanted it that way. A lifetime is not long enough to be singing the same song.
