Well our four days in Rome draws to a close. Our visit this morning to the Vatican was amazing! Unbelievably crowded, but to be expected at this time of the year. Over the past four days we have walked miles and miles and miles, climbed hundreds and hundreds of steps and visited ruins and many sacred places. Everything is truly mind-blowing from the Colosseum, St Peter's Basilica, the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Vatican Museums, the Spanish Steps, to the Trevii Fountain, Tivoli Gardens, Pompeii, and all other fountains, Squares, Piazzas, and the list goes on. The local trains are a law unto themselves, leaving either earlier than scheduled or later, or even delayed by 55 minutes! Makes managing connections interesting! The super-fast inter-city trains travelling at speeds of about 300ks per hour, make long distance travel a breeze. They are very comfortable and serve drinks and snacks at these speeds, without spillage! The taxi drivers are all crazy and seem to have a time-trial to beat! Buses too, just take right of way, if the taxis haven't beaten them to it.

Evening meals are soooo easy, with the hundreds of eel fresco dining on all the streets. It never eases to amaze just how many Gelate shops/stalls there are. You can't walk more than a few paces without coming across another (all with their own delicious flavours!)

Shopping.....is soooooo much fun! Leather is, of course, everywhere, tempting the many tourists! Yes, we have succumbed!

Next stop, Tuscany.

Hi Jeanette. We've only had interrupted wifi over the past couple of weeks so am only now responding. Yes, that would be good if Malcolm was to open it for us, thanks. We're doing a pretty good job of drinking the wine, you can be sure of that! Quite a few kilos will need to be dropped on return. Lol xx
