Ferndale Parade and other stuff

Another day in Eureka. We had no reservation at the KOA for 7/4 so we moved over to our new found friend Bea from Juneau, Alaska. She is a motorcycle rider, 75 years old and travels with her dog, Virginia. She had room by her RV and seemed like a great thing to do. However it is now 6 pm and no one is in our old site. Bea lead the Juno parade for years and was the guest leader for Ferndale's. We went to Ferndale, a quaint Victorian village about 20 miles down the road for the annual 4^thof July parade. Proved to be a neat event, lots of friendly people and even a few local BMW bikers.

If you are ever in Ferndale, the fairgrounds have water and power and no charge for camping any time except when the county fair is going.

Back to the KOA where we are packing up and getting ready to head South. Really hate to leave the cool air. We are off in the morning for Santa Rosa to scout out accommodations for the 12^th as we are judging a KCBS event on the 13^th. And have to be in Salem on the 15^th at 8 am. JOY! The only drawback is the temps have been in the 100 plus range on the I5 corridor in this part of the country. We have gotten spoiled to the 60's and 70's for the last 2 weeks!

On a side note there is available in California USDA certified organic beer. Also the conservation queens charge a 5 cent tax (not deposit) on cans and bottles. The state gets the nickel and you can throw the can on the road. These are rather different ideas than Michigan.



Spoiled is right! I am thoroughly enjoying 60 and 70 degrees. The KOA looks like a parking lot and it has no ambiance. We could not get a spot in a nice tree lined State Park. People who never camp seem to be bound and determined to camp on Fourth of July. I can't figure it out because they come in totally unprepared to set up a viable campsite.. Travel tip: towels never dry so use the roll up chamois towels you find at Walmart or Auto Zone to dry your car. They pack up damp anyway so no problem. I have a nice fuschia one.We have never had California BBQ so it will be interesting. Stay tuned for updates!
