We had a challenging start to our adventures. After approximately 33hours' travel, on arrival into Palermo at 11.00pm we learned our luggage had not arrived with us! Eventually after quite sometime in the queue, we arrived at our hotel and fell into bed at 1.00am. Sunday was spent collecting our hire car, from the airport as we'd been instructed, only to learn we Needed to collect it from the city office! Our luggage was still nowhere to be found, but hopefully was still in Rome. Late afternoon we set off in our cute little Fiat Panda, minus luggage (a good thing, as it wouldn't have fitted) for destination, Gardini Naxos in the south of Sicily. We've loved our stay in this lovely old family-owned hotel. The breakfasts and dinners up on the terrace overlooking the beautiful waters of the Mediterrean have been everything they promised! Yesterday afternoon late, we collected the one remaining piece of luggage from the Catania Airport, an hour's drive from here. I am a happy traveller now! Nothing worse than scrounging around finding bits and piece of clothing to get you by as you await news of yet another possibility as to where your luggage may be! Nobody really knows! Sadly we haven't seen as much of this area as we'd have liked, because so much time has been spent tracing our luggage and the mixed messages we've been given about what has arrived and has not. We look forward to what lies ahead. I omitted to mention much to Les' disgust, we changed our hire car to one slightly larger, an Alfa Guielette. Rob and Les love the car and are learning to drive like the Italians! Woohoo!!!
