This morning we towed the caravans out to Silverton. Located approx. 25km's NW of Broken Hill. Silverton is an old mining town which was built by miners in search of their fortunes. In the 1800's it was a bustling Town with a population of around 3,000; however, today it has a population of around 50people. Silverton has starred in countless films and television shows and many of you may recognise the buildings. A Town Like Alice and Mad Max 2 were filmed here. The old Silverton Gaol has a very interesting museum attached to it and the little Gallery, up on the hill, serves a lovely cuppa and toasted sandwich. We spent a few hours in Silverton.
After lunch we drove back into Broken Hill to visit the Pro Hart Gallery. The Gallery is 3 levels of artworks. They also have an informative video running which introduces you to the Pro Hart family history, from his beginnings as a child, a miner, a family man and an artist.
We then headed for South Australia. This is our first time in South Australia. We drove for about 80km's and then found a camp site where we spent the night. It
was a little noisy as it was right beside the road and many large trucks were going by. There was also a train track nearby. Tracy counted 101 containers!! It was a very long train.
