Hi everyone,

We are delighted to let you know that Donald and I got engaged 2 days ago !!!!......here's the details ........

We hired a guide took a 4 day detour off the main Annapurna circuit into the restricted Nar Phu valley in order to visit the high desert like plateaus and traditional tibetan villages. Night 2 was spent at 4100m in a small village where we were the only visitors. I had a bit of a sleepless night with altitude sickness symptoms ( feels like a real bad hangover) and endured the all night thunder storm. We awoke next morning to find 4 inches of snow had fallen resulting in clear blue skies and brilliant sunshine with amazing views of surrounding mountains. D suggested we go for a wander to the top of the village to take some photos before breakfast, feeling terrible and so out of breath I was persuaded to climb up the empty hillside, where upon reaching the top he got down on one knee and popped the question!!! So romantic!!! The fact I hadn't been able to shower for 3 days and my hair had a weeks dirt in it obviously hadn't put him off!!!

I was totally delighted and surprised and Donald is now quite relieved!!! One of the 3 rings he had sneakily brought with him fitted!! We headed back to the T house and celebrated over porridge and T, unable to tell anyone our news as they thought we were already married ( we've had to pretend as cohabiting unmarried here is frowned upon!) Our first day engaged comprised of a 5 hrs slog walking then a freezing night with no electrics, showers etc!!! Had a further days trek back down to" civilisation" before we could share our happy news!!! We still have another week before we can reach real civilisation in order to celebrate properly with some bubbles!!!!!!

Stunning views of the Annapurnas today now that we are reaching the top of the valley......dreading the high altitude of the next few days.......

Looking forward to celebrating with you all on our return.

lots of love K and D xx

PS. Comment from Donald. "Figured she'd be more likely to accept if she was totally sleep deprived and not thinking straight due to altitude sickness.........."

Hahahahah!!!!! Donald, you're lucky Kirstin had wind in her pipes to say yes!!! Absolutely thrilled for you both - it's just the best news!! And I'm sure you'll be able to celebrate in style once you get back down to hot showers and champagne on ice. The scenery sounds truly amazing. Sorry to hear the altitude made you feel crappy, Kirstin. Hopefully the next ascent will be better. Stay safe, happy travels. And wooooohoooooo!!!! Engaged!!!!! Mel xxxxxx

Great News!!
Word has spread around Dundee...fantastic and pleased as punch for the two of you. Enjoy Nepal and all it has to offer. Agree with Donald that low oxygen levels and sleep deprivation are when women are most likely to say yes!! Good planning. Safe trips and see you for Glasgow 2014 stuff later.
