Hi all,

We've now met many people in our time in Nepal, based on this we can confidently say that we're the tallest and whitest people in the country.

We appreciate that we're very lucky with this trip, for any of you who were jealous here's something for you - a description of the Nepali bus experience. You're told it will take 6 hours, it takes 9. Imagine a medium-sized sauna with 45 people rammed into it. The only speaker is 5 inches above your head and plays what appears to be the same tune very loudly for the whole journey. You have a large kerosene gas cylinder wedged between your legs and locals on your arm rest and standing over you. To add to this glorious experience I had the start of Delhi belly, and anywhere we stopped had a properly minky 'Lang drop' with no bog roll...... Kirstin had 3 different Nepalis sitting on her most of the time, and the radiator kept overheating and raising the temperature well north of 35oC!!

In our last day in Kathmandu we visited some beautiful temples at Bagtapur. Other than that the city's not that enjoyable, massively full on at street level where it's hectic traffic and people 24/7.

Our first week's trekking has been very special. We started at 800m and have steadily climbed to 2600m. Reasonably long days and our legs are definitely feeling it, hopefully we'll have the energy for the altitude days, we're going to need it. We've passed through terraced paddy fields, bamboo forests, pines and enormous gorges so far. We've seen eagles, monkeys, yaks and plenty goats and cows in every village. It's also been useful for Kirstin to get over her fear of chickens and suspension bridges, there's plenty of both!

The people are constantly very friendly and engaging, however one of the tea house owners was dead set on getting a visa to 'Scotiland' by marrying a Scotiland girl. For any of you ladies back in the motherland let us know if you're interested and we'll hook you up. If it helps, he wouldn't have to live with you if you didn't want to.....

For those of a competitive nature, Kirstin's winning backgammon 3:1, and german whist comfortably. Not happy!!

Apologies for lack of photos, we'll try to catch up later, the internet facilities are a little rudimentary................

Donald & Kirstin.
