Sketch
My drawing after a nice day of filling my buddha belly :) Today was great! Im digging hangzhou more and more each day. It was the last morning in my dorm room that i have had by myself. I slept in a little, until my body (no alarm clock finally!) woke me up
at 9:15, and when i opened the curtains it was a beautiful warm morning. I felt so lazy for "sleeping in" as i watched the students below me hustling and bustling to class. I put on a clean dress (wearing clean clothes makes me feel spoiled like a princess) and went across the street to get my usual banana from the crazy banana lady and a laundry bar for laundry in the sink. Joohee was moving into my room, so i cleaned up her side of the room (my hoops were sleeping on that bed for the last few days) and decided to take advantage of the warm day and wash the rest if my dirty clothes. Doing laundry by hand is hard work! And i dont even scrub them all that much, i just move them around in the sink and call it good haha. Its the wringing out that is a pain in the butt! I seriously pulled a
Koren noodles
What a great way to advertise.. Noodle cup holders.. China cracks me up :) arm mussel today (yeah call me weak haha). Although it is labor, it is also relaxing and sort of meditative. I put up my clothes then got bombarded by a chinese maid. No matter what i tried to say or act out or point or write down.. It didnt work! All i could understand was" you today blah blah blah" some classmates left and i knew i had to pay more money today but when i asked "me leave?" She said no. Then i said "you clean?" And she said no. I kept say wo bu jie dao (i dont understand) over and over again, and after 5 minutes We both realized at the same time it wasnt going anywhere and she laughed and left the room. Problem solved! We had our last scheduled lunch in the hotel with the dean of zhejiang university, and it was faaaaaannncyy smancy! Talk about dank dank chinese food. I tried some chinese rice wine aka tastes like watered down soy sauce, and we toasted to evergreens connection with the school. They offered us all the opportunity to apply for graduate programs with full ride scholarships! But your chinese has to be top par
Zaki making tea
Tea warms my soul :) to understand the classes.. Thats the catch. After stuffing myself silly (i accidentally ate jelly fish, i thought it was noodles!) we went out the back gate to catch a taxi to see an art exhibit back at the buddhist academy. It was "national no taxis available day" as in it was impossible so we started hoofing to the bus stop. It was really warm out but absolutely beautiful. Although it was far it only cost 2 yuan so it was worth it. When we got to our stop the cutest little old man with his bike was waiting for us with an adorable hand made sign that said "hirsh" (na ge laoshi mingzi) he was sent by the monks to pick us up to show us the way to the art show. For a little old man he was such a fast walker, and it was so hot out. We were late but got there in time to hear some of the monks talk about their art and hear some traditional music it was beautiful! The snacks were bomb digity too'! Real orange juice, pistachio cake rolls, sushi rolls, mango pudding and green tea cookies. The monks know whats up. The other monks we met the other day had made us all braclets that were for luck and happiness, and they were blessed by buddha! We were invited to have tea with frank the English teacher and the monks that had done all the paintings! Master monks, from the largest monk academy in all of china! Pretty legit if you ask me, i didnt know really what they were saying but the room was beautiful, the sunlight was beautiful, the energy felt so enlightening and fresh. We drank so many cups of tea i had to pee really bad so i went downstairs to find the restrooms. DAMN was i shocked when A. It was super super clean clean B. it had a real toilet, and C. THE nicest public bathroom i have ever been in let alone in china! Wayyyy nicer then the toilets in the buddhist temple, i knew something was up.. I wasnt just at an art show. When i got back i learned that the art show was held next door from the temple at the most EXPENSIVE hotel in china!! Holy mackerels! Not only was i at a private tea party with the most legit monks everrr, but i was at a hotel eating and drinking tea that charges up to $5000 a night! Not yuan, but dollars! No wonder the bathroom was so nice! After cups and cups of yummy tea, frank invited us to dinner at his favorite restaurant down the street. It was soooooo good, no words can describe it. It was all local produce and mostly vegetarian! So grub, and fancy! Im sure it was expensive, it was so nice of frank to take us out. It was a cool "hip" place, playing john lennon and foo fighters, along with french songs ive never heard before but sounded beautiful. And art was everywhere.. It was funky and cute (they served us drinks in mason jars, which made me miss olympia <3) i think the name was sketch. After dinner we all drew pictures and then caught a cab home. So yeah, basically it was a great day full of delicious food, warm sunshine, art and music. I spent the last of my day talking to nick on the phone on his way to work (on his day off!) giggling and laughing about chickens and silly stuff. I love to love our silliness.. Whats life if you cant learn to laugh at yourself? We are good at that. Well its time for bed, a bug just jumped on my screen so lets cross our fingers i dont have bed bugs! Eeek! Ps. Moon is officially full.. It makes me happy knowing that even when i miss my man, friends, or family, we can all still see the same moon 😊 nighty nighty i hope the bed bugs dont bitey bitey!
