This is the first cafe con leche Nicole and I shared together on this trip!
Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to quickly say hello from BA. Nicole and I met early yesterday morning at our hostel in Recoleta after we both had a long day of travel. We were both so excited to be here we both hit the road for a cafe con leche and to explore our neighborhood immediately! We wandered to the parks in Recoleta to the Museo de Bellas Artres, which had an amazing collection of European works (which had just been returned to the museum this past November after they had been stolen and then found in Paris in 2002!) as well as a fabulous collection of Argentine art as well. We went for lunch at the Ferrari/maseratti cafe that was next to the museum (I know very strange) and it immediately started hailing. The hail was quite literally the size of golf balls and the cafe had floor to ceiling glass - it was quite an experience! All of the car alarms were going off and everyone was amazed by what was going on - we were told this was not a typical event in BA! We wandered more of the streets and finished the night with a late dinner in the neighborhood at a very elegant restaurant. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our arrival!

Today we went to la boca and puerto madera - two distinctly different areas in BA (after we slept for ten hours last night!). I think photographs would do the most justice to our travels... I just need to find a USB connection to download my photos (which this computer doesn't have) our travels today by bus showed us how large and amazing this city really is. We have loved every moment we have spent here. The city does feel very european with french style architecture and lots of cafes and cozy spots to settle in for a cafe. More than anything though the city has a huge Italian influence. Tonight we are hoping to find a local tango show or bar... More details about our adventures soon!

Hasta luego!
Siobhan

Here are a couple shots of La boca. the italian fishermen who settled here used leftover paint from the boats to paint their houses long ago, hence the bright colors along the streets!

soap sticks!
i discovered soap sticks in a hostel in Ecuador last year. The soap on the stick almost AMAZING. This bathroom was the only one that had soap on a stick out of three bathrooms and I would always use it....i would go and wash my hands, even if i didnt have to, just to use the soap on a stick. I think it is an AMAZING invention....Its good to know that someone else is enjoying the soap on a stick like I do! And enjoy your time here...and there is a way to rotate your photos so they are standing in the right direction. When you download them they should all be showing (before you save all of them and publish the blog) Hit the rotate button. You can either rotate it left or right.
