We are enjoying the sunshine this winter in Arizona. It's nice to be off the road for a few months. We've made new friends and are helping to get pickleball established at Casa Grande RV Resort. The resort has a teacher, Tony, come in once a week. However, since none of the snowbirds here are "Thousand Trails members," the sport is new to most of them. A friendly crowd and I am so happy Tom is playing just about every day. Me? I continue to work hard NOT to make PB the center of my universe. I definitely drank the Pickelball Kool-aid. Many of our new friends are leaving soon so we had a PB tournament to cap off the winter. So fun.
The tournament started at 9:30 in the morning and about 6 pm we thought we would have to have the awards ceremony in the hot tub because (except for a few very) we were dragging. Gold went to Joyce and Daryl. Silver went to Margaret and (my)TOM and Margaret and Wayne, and Margaret and Gene. To say Margaret was wearing out her partners......you'd have to ask Daryl, her husband. Confused? Just go with it. ;-)
Weekends
we take day trips. One afternoon, after driving down a mountain dirt road for an hour we came to Asarco Copper Mine. I was trying to remember if this was one we sold off-the-road tires to (in my former life)...but anyway, wish we could have pulled off the highway to take a picture of the greenish mountain cliffs but it wasn't possible.
We spent an afternoon at the Eloy Airfield with Margaret & Bruce and ran into Debbie & Rocky, and Joyce & Herb. A skydiving exhibition took place. For $175 you could jump tandem out of a (perfectly good) airplane with an experienced jumper. It was amazing to watch (operative word is WATCH!) They also have an indoor simulated skydive where you can experience freefall at speeds up to 120 mph in a vertical column of air. Our pictures on that are a little scratchy because the chamber is all scratched from people getting sucked up and out and back....Another great spectator sport.
This town is geared up for the winter visitors. We attended a chilli cook-off and an air show all in one weekend.
Mourning doves nested in our motorhome slide so we will be
Incoming!
Elroy, Arizona here at least another two weeks, until the eggs hatch. We continue to see the country get slammed with winter storms. Stay safe out on those roads and in your homes! Spring is right around the corner. (pictures continue past the ads below.)
