Trip so far

I left Bangkok at 8pm on a night bus - to arrive at Kuaraburi at 6:30. Not a lot of sleep, Spiderman in Thai was interesting. We stopped at 1am for something to eat! Taxi took me to the pier for 7:30, boat arrived at 9 and I was on Koh Ra island for 10am. I knew the 'ecolodge' was basic, no hot water, no air conditioning (I didn't need it), electricity available for 3 hours and no internet cafe for a long way.... However, the reason I chose it was empty beaches, jungle sounds and a community feel. My room was on stilts in the vegetation. Three meals a day provided, which were great, in the salsa just by the beach. We all eat together and just when I thought I had guessed which dish had the chillis in that night I would eat a mouthful of something that made my mouth tingle. The soups were mainly the crafty ones!

I did a morning of kayaking and snorkling, trips to various parts of the island and pineapple and egg islands for snorkelling again. Absolute heaven for me with loads of swimming. I was reading in a hammock, by the beach as the sun was going down and a hornbill flew into the tree above me to eat, so I think I was really lucky to see it so close. No-one around one afternoon, so really enjoyed a bit of skinny dipping.

Met some great people and got a taxi back with two US men who are cabin crew with Continental to Phuket. Decided to get an Air Asia flight to Kuala Lumpar the next morning, so spent the night at the airport.

In a great hostel now, first time for me a mixed dorm. Big difference? The girls chat, no point starting a conversation with the men. Helpful staff and kind to me - making sure I have the bottom bunk.

Pouring with rain this morning so headed for the malls - so many kinds: incredibly posh to very inexpensive. Camera battery keeps running out but there is one picture of the inside of the expensive mall (Gucci etc)

Chinese New Year tomorrow so hoping to see a few things

You made it!
Looks like you're having a great time over there - sounds like a free bus pass would be just the job! Kayaking and snorkelling sounds really good fun. Love seeing all the pics - carry on the good work! Bon voyage.
