Well things have settled down slightly...!
We've checked into a bungalow on Ko Samet for the next week in the hope that our card will arrive before we have to depart. The owner of the hostel seemed very grateful for the lump sum of baht they recveived and after some red hot bartering gave us 'good price' on bungalow. Down from 800B ($28) to 500B ($16) but now they seem to clean our room daily as well - it needs it.
Since our last posting we met another lovely English couple Smudger and 'elen, who kept us thoroughly entertained the other night with stories of their adventures from visiting Thailand over the past 10 or so years. We gleaned some valuable advice on the workings of the police and culture which will no doubt come in handy. Michelle and Helen seem to be from the same stock ie. both love Samsom buckets, it's difficult to stop either of them talking for long enough to get a word in edgeways and both love cutting the rug (dancing). Won a powderpuff-esque toy on some game show which was aptly titled 'Shitloads' as a unique reminder of Nunnyand has returned to the UK with them. Smudger was also a right geezer a mad hammers fan - who was steadily teaching all the Thais cockney slang - most notably the bloke on the mic each night who gees up the crowd with 'orright, bott-ul of lager, and even had the Cockney songs downpat (he even went for Crystal Palace in the football).
Yesterday we went on the boat round the island and went snorkelling fishing, diving off the top deck and then went to a fish farm which had an array of huge fish, sharks and some unfortunate sea turtles. Nunny started the day pale after her night on the buckets and combined with the motion of the ocean nearly put the power of chuck into the old fishing boat we were on.
We were taught fire twirling last night to the tunes of my .mp3 player which fortunately plugs into the bar's sound system and breaks the monotony of the very high rotation Shakira, Black eyed peas and top 40 R&B. I reckon tonight I will have them playing Midnight Oil after breaking them in gently with some semi-pop songs. A dutch bloke then brought out his trance CDs and old mate behind the bar got out the fire sticks and went nuts for a bit.
Just been to a wicked restaurant for lunch which has glass tables and holes cut in the floor of the pier so you sit and dangle your legs off looking through the glass and the hole at the fish underneath (which appear in droves if you drop a few grains of rice). Nice recommendation Smudger!
Some more fire twirling lessons and some Muay Thai boxing is on the cards tonight followed by a night out with our Thai friend - look out!
Catch ya next time.
