Day 8: Willows, monopoly and pizza

Never have I been so unaware of the imminent arrival of Christmas than this year. It takes me by surprise when I remember the date.

Today was quieter and slightly anticlimatic after the excitement of the lake and the fishing yesterday. All that smiling and adrenalin had taken its toll and I was very tired today. Good job it was Sunday. Not much was going on and so we followed suite.

I had my breakfast of croissants, coffee and orange outside by the river. It has been getting warmer each morning.

Nady led Ben and I to a nearby park and we got to see the real side of San Martin, where the non tourists live, just across the other side of the river. She wanted to show us the wee sack swing; a swing that you lie down on and your tummy goes all funny when you go up high. We saw some huge, beautiful willow trees along the banks of the river, a cat being sick and a very ugly dog.

We had a game of monopoly outside on the terrace by the river, that was surprisingly short. Had an unusual allergic reaction whilst sitting there and not just to the game which isn't my favourite but to some plant nearby. My skin and eyes started to itch. Joe won the game; part of a winning streak he is on.

Had a siesta....first of the trip. Normally we have a siesta every day.

We weren't ready to forget our fish yet so Gray read the Bible stories about fishing. We were pleased to realise that God was still interested in helping people catch fish. Ben said he had been praying hard yesterday.

Then it was out to search for some supper. It was Ben and Nady's turn to choose a restaurant. They chose a place that looked really good but the pizzas were a big disappointment. I think the Argentines should stick to beef......beef delicious, pizza, not. To make up for the disappointment, we treated ourselves to some hand made chocolates made here in San martin. Now those were delicious. Dare I say, as good as English chocolate?

Have managed to get Nady to bed before midnight and I will be following soon. The mental countdown to the next leg of the trip has begun and I don't really want to leave this lovely place. Andrea
