We started off the day looking forward to this world flower stage called Floriade. It was cloudy but the weather bureau said it would begin to clear. As soon as we crossed the border into Holland it in fact looked like it was getting better.
In anticipation of the loads of people, the parking lot was located a kiometer away and we had to be shuttled by bus to the main entrance. While waiting for the shuttle at the designated area, a musician playing an accordian on a scooter in the shape of a cow came barreling through the walkway playing um pa pa music. It was shocking because the teets of the cow were front and center. As we walked we encountered the worlds biggest rain boots.
What an entrance, I tell you, it set the mood. As we finally arrived at the gate, we veered off to the left to look at the various flower displays in all there splendor. I snapped away about 100 photos in 10 mins. My finger was cramping up so I snapped with the other hand. Lol.
The venue is huge. We encountered a Pavillion and there was a carrousel inside
with sample dishes of various condiments and tastes. I was hungary so I sampled a few.
It started to rain so we had to make-shift raingear in a hurry. Bernd took a plastic bag and fashioned it so he looked like Tin Tin. It was very funny.
As we walked out I snapped a picture of this old tree trunk with a carved face on it. Done very well indeed. AS we meandered I kept hearing about this Willowman. I had to see this guy about a Willow so I searched him out. What I found was a gentleman who takes as a base for his creations, willow branches and weaves unusual working scultures out of them such as animal cages, homes, hammocks, baskets etc.. It is a work in progress sculpture that is still materialising and has been for a number of months. You can google the Willowman. The girls and Bernd were given some material to make a mini sculpture to hang up in a tree. Once it ws completed they were given a wooden tag to write a dream or an observation about conservation on it and sign it. They excluded me. Shame, shame, shame.
I asked why and they said I did not participate in the building of it and so there it goes! They ran off like children and placed it somewhere in the forest.
We kept walking and went into a taste testing Pavillion next and ate some interesting vegetables and smart foods. Smart foods were like dry cereal and did not make me smarter.
One Pavilion we entered was of flower sculptures, using a single type of flower like Orchids it was amazing how they can use these flowers to make visually stunning presentations. My back was aching so we stopped and watch people put 50 cents into a machine to watch a dragon breath fire. I can keep blogging but you get the gist.
