After making through passport control with a brutal bus driver (he gave us 20 mins to get off the bus and through the whole process) I entered into Singapore.
The town has a really simple transport system that takes you around town and is cheap (especially in comparison to London). I was staying with a friend in the Botanic Gardens, which is easily accessible to lots of tube stops.
The first thing I really noticed about Singapore is how immaculately clean it was and how organised and developed it has become. I think as it is a small, modern city they have really found a way that works.
On the first evening I wondered down Orchard Road which is full of bright lights, tall buildings and buzzing shops, most of the shops are posh and expensive chains like Louis Vouitton, Gucci, Prada, Ferrari, but there were also the normal high street shops. From there we headed to Clarke Quays. This area is full of bars and restaurants, all based around the sea, all the bars were beautifully kept and well air conditioned and the whole area was full of people. Wednesday night is Ladies night, so ladies get
a lot more deals throughout the night.
The following day we wondered around the Botanic Gardens, which is a beautiful gardens with lots of different themes, they have an orchid garden (where they clone orchids specially for a person ie Ricky Martin or Jackie Chan), a ginger garden, healing garden, an evolution area.. bamboo reflexology... and much more, it was just nice to wonder round for the morning. Then after meeting a friend we went to the Andy Warhol exhibtion in this flower shaped building along the Marina Bays area. The exhibtion was free and quite a nice size, going through the life and works of Andy Warhol.
After this we classically headed to Raffles for a Singapore Sling (and YES I did chuck the peanuts on the floor) could not miss that out. Furthermore, we walked down the road and went for some traditional chicken rice at a little restaurant (which didnt have menus!) Along Marina Sands they have a large shopping centre and Hotel with a boat on top, which has only been built in the past 3 years. We went to the bar at the top of this which has beautiful views over the bays
and city. Whilst we were there, they were fliming a chinese film which was quite amusing to watch!
The following day we spent doing the cultural part of Singapore and walked from LIttle India down to Chinatown. Little India was a bit more like the real world than the rest of Singapore but has lots of temples and areas to wonder round. By walking between the 2 we walked through the centre of Singapore, allowing us to see the museums and City districts. Chinatown was a really cool area, and has foodstalls and souveniers stands everywhere. Finally we went to the new gardens on Marina bay which were super futuristic and showing how economical, rich and beautiful Singapore is. Only Singapore of course.
