The Thorshavn weather forecast can t be too difficult to predict.Fortunately the storm went dow last evening and as compensation we have now already a constant drizzle for over 15 hours. No hard rain but very wet.
A thousand or so passengers of an incoming cruiseship are set free this morning in Thorshavn and enjoy the drizzle and counting the hours that they can return to the ship and tell their fellowtravellers how interesting it have been to walk in the drizzle in Thorshavn.
In the Netherlands you see recently new built houses with grass on the roof and probably think it s a new development . However in the Faroe islands its modern already for the last hundreds of years. Many houses old as well as new ones have the grass on the roof for isolation and with heavy rainfall they can catch up quite some water.
The Faroe islands were the proud owners of three windmills for electricity production. One of them did not survive a few months ago one of the winterstorms and broke down completely. Pieces landed in the villages around. They don t give up. Are building on the same place now a kind
of windmill park with 7 units. Together with the water power they use for electricity they can cover in the green way 60% of their needs.
Checked this morning the harbor to find out where to check in this afternoon for the ferry to Iceland. Bought some food for tomorrow as well for I v to travel thursday approx 800 km by coaches and the first one I ve to catch goes around 8 o clock. If everything goes well I ll reach Reykjavik approx midnight.
Hope no fog any more so the ferry can find Thorshavn and enter for I ve hardly any sparetime for delay.
