This is a UNESCO site
After Bangkok, I started my journey north by taking the train to Ayutthaya, the former capital of the kingdom of Siam. Only about an hour and a half from Bangkok I got there around noon, got ripped off by my tuk tuk driver again and checked into my private room at my hostel (my own bed, bath and a/c for only 9 dollars).

This town began my two day visiting of temple ruin after ruin. And they get rather old rather quick as to me they all tell more or less the same story. That is they all once seemed to be a residence to patriarch or king and are now sacred. Some are pretty old (dating back to 1300s in this town) which is interesting but I was never overly impressed - maybe that is also partly because I was always dying of heat as well.

On the boat tour I met some fun people that we ended up getting along quite well with and went out for dinner afterwards together. Two were a couple from the uk who had just quit their jobs, got married in Thailand and are now traveling for 18 months... They are only 50 days into their really long journey but the guy has been to Thailand a few times before and had some crazy stories from his travels. The other three people were girls from the us that had been teaching English in china and now were doing a whirlwind tour through SE Asia before returning to the states. We had a good time eating, playing card games, and sharing stories all in the midst of an epic rainy

Not sure what the story with this was
season thunder storm that came out of nowhere and dumped rain like you wouldn't believe. We had to yell to hear each other. With the lighting, the storm made for a pretty cool show.
