Sandy and Gary
Meanarra Lookout June 12th
A good night's sleep once again then it's off to see the pelicans (or was that penguins?) being fed at 8:45. We've had breakfast and trundled over the road to the park overlooking the the river where the pelicans turn up to be fed every day....every day except for today. Expectant visitors turned up along with the volunteer feeder but no pelicans. Oh well maybe another day?
Debbie's cold appears to be getting worse, so unfortunately for her it was back to bed and try to get some rest. Steve decided to potter around the van and do some work on the computer. Sandy and I headed of to do some exploring and sightseeing. We decided to do the Kalbarri Coastal cliffs. Wow, what a spectacular coastline. The large swells of the ocean helped contribute to the natural beauty and ruggedness. Lots of walking and then a short drive to the next location and somehow avoiding the rain storms that were frequenting the area. Whilst we were out walking we could see the storms building over the ocean then coming over landfall. Aside from a small amount of drizzle as we were returning from the mushroom rock
rainbow valley nature trail the rain avoided us 😊. There were so many highlights along the coast I cannot decide which was the most spectacular.
Back to the cabin for lunch then out again, this time with Steve whilst Debbie slept. We did a drive around town and even had a look for a Gabba Gabba Gully sign given that I had my Ramones tee shirt on but we were out of luck. The gully exists but it is not sign posted. Then off to have a look at the photovoltaic power site. Not much to see really apart from a dozen solar panels! Up along the Murchison River on a 4x4 track before heading back out to have a look around Murchison House, one of the original homesteads in the area. Unfortunately after driving 5k's down a dirt road there was assign on the gate advising that it is only open between 10am and 1pm. It would have been nice to have had the sign on the main road. On our way back to the cabin we stopped in at the Meanarra lookout, on the way up to the lookout, yet another emu walking across the road. Once
up at the lookout the view from the top was spectacular. The storm fronts coming through with the views over the town and river as well as looking inland all made this excursion off the main road worthwhile. Back to the cabin before the sun sets on another amazing day. Down in southern WA tonight is expecting a wild storm with wind speeds of around 125 kph. Hopefully the house survives without any damage, up here we are hoping that we also escape unscathed. Dinner tonight is fish and chips from the local fish and chip shop....hopefully sampling some of the local seafood.
