So this is the entry where you say "screw you man, I don't need to hear about all that sunshine, beaches and surf."
But please wait, I promise it wont be one of those entries. Canoa was great but it had it's share of mosquitos, sun burns and locals who like to steal the gringos sandals and laugh because they don't sell anything in that town larger than a size 9.5. However to be honest, I didn't want to leave.
Skipping the 2 weeks where we did nothing but enjoy the beaches in Ecuador I will write about where we are now, Peru. We took a big ol' bus from Ecuador through the expansive desert of northern Peru to the capital city of Lima. It was incredible to drive through such a landscape with the ocean on the right and mountains of sand dark rock on the left. And maybe we skipped some sights considering we are half way through the country already but after 15 hours of that desert outside the bus window we're happy to pretend we didn't miss much. Arriving in Lima was a spectacular break from the lifestyle we have become used to lately. Starbucks,
Cotopaxi
One of the largest active volcanoes. shopping malls, theatres showing american films in english and the feeling that it's okay to take your camera out and take pictures at night (apparently the flash in other cities attracts muggers). So we did all of these things including stocking up on undies so I can extend the time between our laundromat visits. Lucky for us Peru is supposed to be pretty big in the culinary industry and Lima seems to be the pinnacle of that. Of course you get what you pay for so we've gone a bit over budget on a few meals without regret. One of my favorites and something we've been told to try multiple times was Ceviche. It's a Peruvian dish made with a fresh white fish that is cooked by the acids of primarily limes and peppers, no heat added. Served cold and full of flavor I would take Ceviche over Sashimi any day. Apart from the fish we had plenty of other great meals including an amazing grilled octopus and some sandwiches at a shop that's similar to a trendy mix of booster juice / quiznos. Lima did have more than just food, including some lovely parks situated on a cliff overlooking

nobody we know in this one. the ocean. Also the typical cathedrals and colonial buildings which are beautiful but truthfully they are begining to lose the appeal as they are in every single city. We're now in Cuzco acclimatizing before we check out Machu Picchu in a few days, I will try post pictures a little sooner this time.
