Hi again,
Long time no write, so I have a lot to tell.
We were on the way to the trek, and in order to get used to the altitude we took a day in Zhongdian (3300 m). Zhongdian is one of the 2 places known as "Shangri La" - the heavenly city from Hilton's "Lost Horizon".
Well, Zhongdian in not really heavenly, but it is located between beautiful mountains, and one of the largest Tibetan monestaries is right next to the city.
The monestary was really the best one I've seen so far (the other ones were quite boring). The photos are from there.
There are many different temples there, and on the hills around it there are many altars with Tibetan flags (you probably saw these in many movies). Since the place is around 3500 m, climbing one of those hills was not an easy task (where is all of the oxygen when you need it?).
We also found the big drum that is used instead of the church's bells, and when we played with it came a real monk and gave us a little show...
Of course we rolled some prayer wheels, and were blessed by a monk...
Tomorrow - the long expected trek...
DASH,
R.
