Good morning, y'all!
We have some winners from yesterday's Roadtrip Trivia! The green stuff was collard greens. No one has guessed the fried stuff, though. Nice try with fried okra! But it was chicken livers. I did eat one. And that was enough.
The collard greens we had at KFC were okay, but nothing compared to what we had yesterday (Tuesday) at Leo's BBQ in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Check it out online. This place was featured on the television show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. It was definitely a dive, definitely authentic, and definitely delicious! Our "small" sampler plate (which we shared, all for $20.00!) had smoked balogna, smoked links (sausage), smoked ribs and smoked brisket. The brisket was exceptionally good. And I can honestly say that Mike's ribs hold up in the competition. 😊
Yesterday's slower-paced drive was a welcomed change. And I think we are finally starting to feel like we are on vacation. The beautiful scenery helps a lot. You wouldn't think that we would be able to appreciate it from the interstate
Day 5 - Lunch
Sometimes on roadtrips, you have to stop in restaurant chains to save some time. We try to keep it to chains we don't have at home. On Tuesday, we went to Chili's for lunch. Down South, they like their drinks big. (Could it be because it's so hot?!) And after your meal they give you drinks to go, for the road. This is the "cup" of iced tea Mike received as a parting gift from Chili's! I put a can of pop next to it for proportion. highway, but the road goes through mostly green areas. Not much to see in one sense, but so much in another. We have noticed that the scenery here in Oklahoma is changing. It is a lot flatter than what we saw in West Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky, and there are less and less leaf trees, but it is beautiful nonetheless. We are now more than halfway to Las Vegas, where we will be attending my sister Josée's wedding, and officially welcoming her fiancé Nathaniel into the G-Team (Gignac team), as Mike calls us.
Today, we will be driving through a bit of Texas and stopping either in Albuquerque or Santa Fe, New Mexico for the night. We have never been this far west, so this is very exciting for us! I'm sure we'll see more cowboy hats and boots than we know what to make of.
More roadtrip trivia: What is the yellowish green stuff in a cup from yesterday's pictures? As a hint, I can tell you that it is served frozen, as a refreshing treat, and that the lady at Robertson's Hams told us that one gentlemen comes in every day and dumps a small cup
Day 5 - Country songs
I'm proud to be an Okie from Muskogee!
Living on Tulsa time... of this delicacy into his glass of Coke. Gross!
Funny signs seen on the road: Bucksnort (Tennessee); Toad Suck Park (Arkansas); Big Skin Bayou (Oklahoma); Dirty Creek (Oklahoma); Kickapoo Indian Nation (Oklahoma).
And a note to Mike's readers: This was supposed to be Mike's roadtrip blog, and somehow I've been volunteering to write the entries because I want to give you a summary of our activities while he may have kept it mostly to pictures. He does say "hi", and I do promise that he will eventually write a few words of his own on here. But right now, he is still sleeping.
Until tomorrow,
Cheers!

Frozen Pickle Juice
M&M, based on the price I'm not sure that frozen pickle juice is a big seller! Love the photos, especially the added GSBP graffiti!
