Donnybrook – Food & Wine Fest

Saturday 4th February, 2012

The Donnybrook Food and Wine Fest was a free event held in the Donnybrook Amphitheatre on the banks of the Preston River. Donnybrook is located in the Geographe region of Western Australia where if you have read our previous Blogs you will recall is the birthplace of the ‘Granny Smith’ apple.

The Fest showcases locally produced gourmet food and award winning wines and with all the TV advertising the organisers did, we felt it would be worth going and having a look at. With over 50 stalls and free children's activities, there is something for everyone. Entertainment was provided all day and included a grape stomping competition, waiters race, cooking demonstrations and wine appreciation seminars. There was also a young girl singing country &western and she was fantastic and only 15YO. With two CD’s to her name already, voted best busker at Tamworth Country & Western Music festival in Jan this year (2012), keep an eye out for this young lady , Kate Hindle.

There was also a display of vintage cars and you would not believe it by my old Falcon XY Ute was

It was the cooking demos though that were the highlight of the day and they even kept me totally mesmerised for 3 hours! Then again it was conducted by Daniela and Stefania, who were finalists in the 2011 series of My Kitchen Rules. They were entertaining, funny, captivating and full of great ideas, we both, along with a huge crowd, loved them, it was like sitting in on an Italian family kitchen ‘event’ as opposed to a cooking demo. I am pleased we waited to see them both and let me tell you that watching Stefania was not hard on the eye either! They let slip that they may have a TV series in the offing, so let’s hope so, as I feel it will be a lot of fun, not just cooking.

Trish I know its you!
Hello Mike and Trish, Hope you are well and it appears you are having a great time. One question Trish - who is the tubby fellow you picked up at Donnybrook and where was Mike at the time? Weather has been very warm of late and we are looking forward to a cool change. Life is pretty hum-drum here at present and other than a few minor eye problems which I have of late, both Wendy and myself are keeping well. Wendy's daughter Michelle, recently was married on Port Melbourne beach. Now about the weather, you guested it, the previous few days prior to the wedding were fine and extremely hot and on the day itself, well we had everything except rain. Wind gust were up to 50 KPH and the tempurature was down to 15 degrees. Alice has recently been accepted into Deakin Uni to study a journalism and media course. Callum has recently losted his enployment however, I have no concerns about him finding a new job very soon. He would like to be involved in logistics and when I recently had dinner with him and Samantha, he seemed very sure of the direction he wished to take in life. Lachlan 'the charmer' as allways recently paid a one hour visit and he is progressing up the tree at the RACV. Wendy and myself recently went to see a play in the city. If you remember the TV series 'Yes Prime Minster' then you would have both enjoyed the show, which was very funny. We stayed in the city over night and had dinner in a little Italian restaurant in Hardware Lane. On the Sunday we went down to Docklands and we were both un inpressed. Well that's all folks, Love Wendy and Mal.

Come over here and say That!
Listen Big Fella ! I have actually lost weight ! and I am toned up...so toughen up big boy if you are going to face me with those accusations! great to get all your news and the wedding sounds interesting with all the weather involved but I am sure it went really well for her and you all had a great time. The Gronows went to see the same show..would have been funny if they had been there the same night ....but then again they can't have been as you would have heard Neil !
