Whitening seems to be the word in Asia. Never have I come across a place so adamin to become white than the people of south east Asia. Whitening body lotion, whitening facial scrub, even whitening deodorant...go figure!! Before I came here I had only known of Colgate Whitening toothpaste, not putting it on any other parts of your body! And we in the western world park our fit-for-fight tight bums on the sandy beaches smothered in coconut oil and sunlotion spf10 to get the best, baddest and darkest tans on the planet! How can we be so different, I wonder? Don't know if I agree with either of the beauty ideals that exist, think it should be done in moderation, be that in Asia, or in Europe! Yet I fry myself like a fish in oil everytime I get the chance, so I guess I am hooked on the images the western media promotes! Oh well, no harm right?!

Now that I got that off my chest, back to my travel route! I left the Perhentian islands (Long Beach) 2 days ago, and it was with great effort I actually left. After saying for days that I would leave, the time had actually come for me to fulfill that promise. I felt I could not stay on Long Beach very much longer (in effect, I could have, but decided to leave whilst things where still good, as I felt things could not get any better, only worse, and I wanted to remeber the island fondly, with no regrets!), and I felt I needed to make my way down to catch the flight to Sydney! I had the best 10 days on the island, and I met some people I am sure to meet again! Pretty boys and girls chilling on the beach, bonding in the lack of electricity and expensive alcohol, whilst watching pirated dvd's from China playing at 8pm at Panorama, whilst eating barbequed shark in the shade of the moon! Oh the bohemian life!

Met a Swedish girl who is now my travel companion, and we have pretty much taken care of each other throughout these last few days. It started with me getting ill on the bus down from Kuala Besut to Kuala Lumpur. A mild case of tonsillites, fever and flu that escalated to me staying in bed all day yesterday feeling sorry for myself and being as pitiful as only a human being can be when they feel extremly ill, possibly dying (in retrospect, I wasn't really dying, but it felt like it at the time!). After spening the night on an aircon sleeper train down to Singapore, I feel extremely refreshed and ready to rock and roll! Unfortunately Elin has fallen a bit ill with a tummy bug, and it seems like the roles will be reversed and I will have to take care of her now instead! These two days will be the last days I spend here In Asia this time round. On the 14th I head over to Sydney to start my 5 week ascent on the east coast, in the search for cute, blonde surfer dudes who has more brawns than brains, haha! If I succeed in my task, rest assure that you'll be the first to know! 😉
Till then, I bid you farewell, adieu, so long............

...Just miss you!
Hejsan Eva! I have been reading your "diary" with some envy here in Finland - as you might figure, it is rather cold here still. I meant to contact you to say you should go to the Tioman Islands whilst you are still in Malaysia, but I realise I am a bit late with the suggestion. Also the Cameron Highlands in Northen Malaysia would have been worth a visit... Sorry for not letting you know earlier. As I donĀ“t know if you have another e-mail address I will just have to let you (and everybody else that you have sent this diary to and can read these comments) know, I am a happily married woman now, as you probably had no doubt I would. Studies are hectic but looking good: should graduate next spring and then it will be my turn to head out back in the world. We are still talking about the possibility to move to Capetown, South-Africa... Have to run, but if you do have another way I can contact you, please let me know!!! Keep on keeping on! Take care! Miss you. - Kati RC
