Voni's One Million Mile Award Ceremony

2 weeks ago a friend of mine told me to mark this day (OCT 15, 2011) on my calendar. We were going to the BMW dealer. So today I had the pleasure of being at Engles BMW when Voni got her 1 Million Mile award from BMW.

I had not met Voni in person although we both belong to the LDRider list and know each other from posting. She is a very special person. She was hugging everyone. Her smile was always present.

There were 2 women that were really close to getting their 1 Million Mile awards from BMW. Voni and Ardys. Probably more people have heard of Ardys because there are not that many 76 year old grandmothers riding, and it would be safe to say she is the only one that rides this much. Voni wanted to pass the million mark together with Ardys so they met at the Million Mile highway in CO and put on that last mile together. Voni said at the first pull off after making the mark the 2 of them did a hi-five.

They are the first women to earn that award.

Ardys came to the awards ceremony for Voni.Voni said she had recently asked the Ardy's TX dealership when Ardy's ceremony would be. They replied they were waiting for Ardys to be in TX long enough that they could give it to her.

It was really special because I got to speak with Ardys for about quite awhile. She was telling me all kinds of riding stories. A very quite and soft spoken lady, I dont think she likes crowds. She showed me her latest bike a lowered 650. She had to give up the 1100 as she was had dropped it a couple times and hurt her foot and leg. Anyway I came back higher than a kite. It was an awesome time.

In the little introduction the guy said how long she had been riding and that this award meant she traveled an average of 42K miles a year. He had it worked out how much gas and tires and all kinds of facts and figures.

The owner of the shop came out of retirement to award Voni the certificate. He was the one who has given her every 100K award since she started earning them.
