Well, I finished my third day of classes and so far so good! Now I am waiting to picked up at my hotel, La Casa Sol by senora Isabel. I will be staying with a family in Quito for 2 or 3 weeks...depende?

New town is full of restaurants serving food from around the world to cater to all the touristas. I had some not so great Pho at Uncle Ho's which is next to my hotel. The broth was brownish-black...I think they poured a whole bottle of soy sauce in it? The next night I had pretty decent green curry with tofu at Siam. Yesterday I had FANTASTIC meal at Mama Clorinda's. The restaurant serves traditional Ecuadorian food and the llapingachos was amazing! Also the ahi *kinda like salsa* which spicy and wonderful on everything. Maybe I will learn to make it while I am leaving with a family in Ecuador?

Oh and its rainy and chilly here with a few hours of sun a day...which I totally love.

The couple, senora Isabel and senor Luis Fernando are very lovely. They are retired and have four adult children that live outside the house. Isabel is from Ecuador and Luis is from Columbia. There is house is in a safe and affluent neighborhood called La Floresta. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to school.

Their house is beautiful! Two stories with a gorgeous garden. My room is perfect... a twin bed, private bathroom and desk. I get three meals a day which so have been very delicious. And there is the invaluable opportunity to practice Spanish when you live with a family. Oh and Mary, they have a beautiful yellow Labrador puppy. Forgot her name?

Pictures to come...

Best ecuadorian food is home-cooked meal
I'm so glad you are enjoying your vacation in Quito. I think ecuadorian food is awesome! It is hard to try authentic ecudorian food outside of Ecuador. I tried some in Queens NY it sucked! The best ecuadorian food is home cooked meals. See if you can get invited by local families and you would experience amazing food. I really miss Almuerzos, specially the first course, the soup!! Aji criollo is sometimes made with tomate del albor (tree tomato) back in the US you can by tomato del Albor in a jar and blend it with regular tomatoes and red thai chile and onions. I can't wait. There is a good ceviche place close to plaza del torro I wonder if its still there, but I think they have another store in quicentro. I hope you enjoy your stay! I will be in Quito this Dec. If you are still in QUito then, may be we could meet. Amanda
