Edit Blog Post

So this is my new blog. I don’t know how often I will be able to update as I do not have regular internet access. At this current moment I have nicked Simon’s matric card to get into the U of E library. Oh well.

Ok, Where to start? With my adventures in packing before I left, with my arrival and time in London, or with last night? I would like to leave out packing all together because, other than a huge thank you to all who helped (especially mom); I would like to forget the whole experience. So I will begin with last night as it is fresh in my mind and then jump around a bit with stories about London. And if you don’t like it, remember this is my blog and you can get out if you don’t like it.

Ok, Simon and I took a relatively late flight from Heathrow to Ed yesterday. We arrived around 10 and then had to wrangle with my 4 suitcases (which, by the way, the nice lady at Heathrow did not charge us for even though we were only technically allowed 2). We took pictures of the airport cow, Cowstellation. I will explain the cows (like the angels all over LA a few years back). Then we got on the airport express and bussed back to Waverly. I love the bus ride into Ed. I can’t really explain, but you start out in the middle of nowhere and then go through the suburbs and then right into the city centre and somehow it’s like watching Ed appear rather than just being dropped in the middle and I like it. But I digress. So we get a taxi, which Simon miraculously does not complain about me wanting (he is a little anti-taxi), which drops us off a block downhill from where we want to be. By the time we get to the flat, I am already tired from dragging the bags up hill (two of which way upwards of 50 pounds). I had already been asking Simon if he though Hazel and Jim would be home and want to help when Jim (Hazel’s boyfriend who also lives in our flat) magically appears at the building door to let us in and carry two of the bags so we can make it all in one trip.

Once we get upstairs we drop all the bags in the hall and Simon ushers me into the kitchen, where our friends are waiting to surprise me! Jasper and Tash, Ruth and David, Sarah, Hazel and Jim were all at the flat waiting for us. It was incredible. It was so nice to see my friends and to feel welcome. Simon had prepared by buying a bottle of pinot grigo (my favourite wine, as you all know) and bottles of Asahi (my favourite Japanese beer- as Jasp said ‘you have a favourite Japanese beer?’) and Tesco’s carrot orange cake (my personal heaven). Everyone had a great time, or at least I did and everyone else seemed to. It was the perfect beginning to my stay I think.

Now I am at the library, as I said, blogging when I should be putting together my CV so I can get a job. Oh well. I will do it tonight at home I guess.

Alright, that is enough for one entry. I will follow up with London.

Oh! About the cows- there are 92 cow statues in Ed right now, all of them free to access, so Simon and I are going to try and get a photo of each one and I will be posting them right here.

Another story...
Just to even up the 'anti-taxi' slur against me, i thought i should let it be known that whilst staying in London a taxi driver refused to take Claire where she wanted to go because it was "just round the corner". This was the first time a taxi has ever not given me a ride because it was too near to the destination. I was against getting the taxi due to the lack of distance and felt vindicated by the taxi driver's response. I think Claire has an 'anti-use-my-own-legs-to-walk-there' going on....

Cow?
I want more details concerning the Cow statutes. And how do they relate to some kind of LA Angel, or Angel statutes in LA?? Are they similar to the Oddly decorated Penguin Statutes native to Tulsa, Ok?
