I cant believe we have 2 days left in Australia, it's all going so fast now!

Well, since I last wrote we got back in contact with Auntie Pat and Roy and have been staying with them in Pat's brothers house on the Gold Coast while he is away over in Spain. Its really worked out well because his house is a 5 min walk from the beach and is only a short drive to the tourist spots like Surfers Paradise, Byron Bay etc. Pat and Roy have been so good to us, we arent paying any board and they help buy most of our food so we really are being spoilt!! A backpackers dream!

We spent about 2 weeks on the Gold Coast. It had changed a bit from when I was there last time, well, its a lot busier put it that way! Theres a lot more people, cars and tall buildings but I still really like it there. You're never to far from the beach and the beaches are lovely! Although, we haven't been sunbathing yet - its been sunny everyday but it feels a bit cold for us (although its probably a lot warmer than what it is over there - and its winter here!!)
We've been Geocaching again with Pat and Roy (Geocaching is when you find hidden treasure, we did it when we went camping if you remember?) its been a lot of fun and a good thing about it is it takes you to a lot of places you wouldnt know about or go on our own. We've been to some great lookouts and lovely places on the Gold Coast trying to find these caches.

We've been on a few day trips to places like - Byron Bay, Nimbin and of course all around the Gold Coast which have all been good. Byron Bay was lovely, I would love to live there. It reminds me a lot of Newquay - a sunnier Newquay! It seems very chilled out there lots of surfers and hippys about. Nimbin is a small, little town and is well known for its, how can I say....well its like a mini Amsterdam with everyone openly smoking and selling dope. We were there about 20 mins and 6 people asked if we wanted to buy any weed or hash cookies! I couldnt believe it! and theres a police station at the end of the road! Im not sure how they get away wth it - I can only assume theres not much done about it because its a big tourist spot and if they done away with all the dope there would no longer be any tourism there. I can imagine that the employment percentage is very low - everyones off their head!!

Our stay on the Gold Coast has been very good but because we are running low on money we're restricted to what we can do. Ideally we'd like to go out everynight, get very drunk and meet loads of new people but we cant have it all!! So we've stayed in most of the time with our 'Goon' as they call it in Oz (AKA - 4ltr cask of wine!)

We arrived in Sydney this afternoon and plan to stay here for 3 nights. We are then off to New Zeland where apparently they have the worst snow they have had in years!!! You lucky things in summer over there (never thought Id say that about England!!)

I'll try and write again when we leave here and show you some more photos.

Cant believe we will be home in 7 weeks - its all coming to an end! noooooo!!

Not sure if you can read the sign but basically it means - 'Free the weed'! A typical sign and phrase there.

We werent too happy about standing here because when Pat picked up the cache and great big spider was on it - gross! The spiders are huge here!!
