8/8/11 took off from Weipa to travel on the Batavia Downs Road, which will save us about 100 km. The road is rough & corrugated & dusty, but what’s new. We stopped at the Wenlock River & had lunch at Morton Telegraph Station & then went to spend the night at Bramwell Junction Roadhouse. It was hot, about 30 deg but the nights are cool, it was $20 per night & we had a shower & loo & we were under a picnic shelter. We did 190 km today. 9/8/11 up early & got a shot of the cars on the Old Telegraph Track & then it was time to go to Elliot Falls. The road is pretty cut up & it took a while to go 127 km. We stopped at the turn off & Warwick & Marg turned up with a flat tyre, thanks to a tent peg on the road. So after a bit of cursing, the boys changed the tyre & we went in to see the Fruit Bat Falls. They are spectacular. We then went along the Old Telegraph Road about 9 km (that was enough) very rough & we had to go through a deep river crossing at Scramble Creek, it came over Warwicks bonnet. We set up camp at Elliot Falls National Park, loos & $10.30 a night. We were all hot & bothered so we went for a swim in the Twin falls. Just great, so refreshing & we all came out feeling better, still hot but nights are cool. 10/8/11 a quiet day today took our lunch to the falls & had a relaxing day. We had a look at Elliot Falls & the Saucepan Falls, all beautiful. Warwick also had his running board come loose on his car & also his air conditioning fan had got wet going through the creek. Poor Margy got her hair stuck in the zipper on the tent & also got a nasty cut on her leg from the falls. Not having much luck. 11/8/11 off early & travelled across the Jardine River Ferry ($60 for seniors & $88 normal) & set up camp at Alau Beach Umagico. A magical place & the view is great. Highly recommended @ $20 a night & an extra $5 for power & we have a camp kitchen all to ourselves. We then went into Bamaga to get Warwicks tyre fixed & had a $12 lunch at Bamaga Resort, did some shopping & had a look at Siesia. Not much there but we will explore it again later. Bought a carton of xxxx & 2 lts wine $85, I am still trying to pick Den up off the floor. It was so hot Margy bought a kids swimming pool & her & I had a great time having a “bubble bath” trying to cool off. We can’t swim in the ocean cause of the crocs & sharks. The boys put the hose over the car & we had an easy tea. We have booked in for a week & we will see how we go.
