In-between Tours

After completing our first tour for this trip, we thought we’d slow down the pace by spending a couple of days in the city of London and a couple more visiting Sheree’s second cousin who lived close by.
It was all work and no play for the first day, where we attended the Head and Neck imaging conference at the Royal Society of Medicine in London. The speakers were very good, and it was interesting to see the differences between Australian and United Kingdom health care.
After a full-on day of lectures and grotesque photographs it was time to unwind at the pub, enjoying a few beverages as well as good company of a friend we’d met in Fiji (Nick).
It was only a short train trip to St Albans where we stayed with Karen, Tony and the adorable Finn! We were so happy to catch up with family, and made the most of home luxuries such as an oven (making a pavlova) – and loved Karen’s great cooking. We had really missed eating salads on our tour, and Tony had cooked up a perfect steak to compliment!
Together we went to St Albans Cathedral and Abbey, built in 1077. It’s nave is the longest of any cathedral in England (84metres). The architecture that dates back to Norman times was truly amazing.
Back in the city of London we strolled along Hyde Park, through Marble Arch and watched on as a friendly grey squirrel relished food along the Princess Diana Memorial Gardens Walk. Not far from Wellington Arch was an ANZAC memorial composed of an arc of stones with engraved names of lost soldiers superimposed under the battles in which they fought.
Walking further along we saw the Royal Albert Hall opposite Albert memorial, then continued to Kensington Palace which had plenty of scaffolding surrounding it with a couple of excavators overlooking the mounds of dirt where the gardens are being re-planned.
We spent a bit of time in the British Museum observing various artefacts from a wide range of cultures, then it was time to check out the extravagant store - Harrods.
For the first time in a few days Sheree was speechless as we walked into the Chocolate Bar!
On the fourth floor was Pet Kingdom, and just when Lachie thought Sheree spoils Oscar (our cavoodle) too much – he spotted the Pet Spa with staff pampering a lop-eared rabbit with a hairdryer and fancy brush!

Hi Lachie and Sheree, Thanks for the photos from London, when I was there I just loved Harrods, and it still looks the same just beautiful. Oscer went home with Rhonda and Colin on Saturday morning, he was happy to see them, but still jumped on our bed in the morning, he was'nt any trouble, he went for a walk with Greg every morning, and slept near the heater, as its very cold here. Take Care lots of Love Nana....XXXX
